Western PA’s longest-running addiction treatment program offering inpatient, outpatient and MAT care.

Integrating time-tested methods and the newest care innovations, the Ellen O’Brien Gaiser Center has changed lives and met community needs for more than 50 years. A nonprofit substance use disorder center located in Butler, PA, the Gaiser Center stands at the forefront of trauma-informed care, recognized as the region’s longest running addiction treatment program and a Pennsylvania Center of Excellence for treatment of opioid use disorders. The Gaiser Center offers telehealth services for anyone who needs support but can’t always come to our outpatient office. Using a secure, HIPAA-compliant Zoom platform, you can do assessments, individual counseling, and group sessions from home. Flexible appointment times are available!

Telehealth is helpful when life gets busy. Things like transportation, childcare, work, or unexpected events shouldn’t keep you from getting the care you need. It can also help you meet legal or probation requirements when scheduling is tough.

To join, you’ll need reliable internet, a private space, a valid email address, and a phone number in case we get disconnected. Our team will guide you through the process and help you get started.

We had a great time celebrating the end of the year together at our staff holiday party at The Atrium! With delicious food from Medure's Catering, DJ bingo, karaoke, a snowball fight, and fun prizes, it was a chance to relax, enjoy each other's company, and celebrate a successful year as a team.

One month from today, join us at Waynesburg University's Center for Criminal Justice and Forensic Investigation, on January 20 at 6:30 PM, for a presentation by the Gaiser Center’s own full-time Medical Director, Dr. C. Thomas Brophy.

Dr. Brophy is board-certified in addiction medicine and emergency medicine, and has a background in neuroscience. He offers a unique perspective on the addiction cycle, treatment options, and managing withdrawal.

The seminar will include these topics:
- Trends in Substance Abuse
- Neuroscience of Addiction
- Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
- Withdrawal Management
- Using the Neuroscience of Addiction to Your Advantage

Our Women’s Group meets every Wednesday from 10 AM to 12 PM at our Outpatient office at 315 Liberty Street, Butler, PA 16001.

We focus on women’s needs using a trauma-informed approach. Topics include building self-worth, healthy relationships, self-care, life skills, healthy coping, and relapse prevention.

This group supports women in recovery who want to connect with others facing similar challenges and work towards healing from substance use.

Our clients took part in the City of Pittsburgh’s 23rd Annual Gingerbread Display and Competition again this year. They had a great time building gingerbread houses together, then both clients and staff voted for their favorite!

Gingerbread house #5 earned the most votes and was submitted to the official display. You can see our house and more at the City-County Building, in Downtown Pittsburgh, through early January.
