Many veterans carried things home they never talked about.

If you love one, here are warning signs of PTSD to watch for (according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs):

• Increased anger or irritability
• Emotional numbness or withdrawal
• Nightmares or trouble sleeping
• Jumping at loud noises / always “on guard”
• Avoiding crowds or conversations about the war
• Increased alcohol use
• Deep guilt, shame, or hopelessness

These aren’t personality flaws.
They’re signs of invisible wounds.

And if you ever hear talk of hopelessness or feeling like a burden, call the Veterans Crisis Line — dial 988 and press 1.

Check on your veterans.
Listen without judgment.
Sometimes the strongest ones carried the heaviest load.

When a family member has PTSD, it can affect the whole family. You may feel hurt or helpless, but it's important to remember that you are not alone. You can support your loved one by learning about their PTSD and working through challenges together: https://www.ptsd.va.gov/family/effect_families.asp

Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romance.
Today, reach out to a veteran.
Call them. Sit with them.
Let them know they’re seen, valued, and not forgotten.
Love shows up in many ways — be the reason someone feels it today. 🇺🇸

Valentine’s Day isn’t always about romance.

Sometimes love looks like calling.
Listening.
Sitting with someone through a hard moment.

At the NVF, love looks like being there when Veterans reach out.
