Today is National Fentanyl Awareness Day. One of the first things you can do is be informed.
WHAT WE KNOW:
Every day, an estimated 217 people are lost to overdose, with the leading driver of these deaths being fentanyl, a synthetic opioid. Just a few grains of sand's worth of fentanyl can be lethal, and fake prescription pills laced with it are showing up in communities everywhere. Too often, people take these pills completely unaware of the potential for a fatal outcome. Awareness saves lives. So does action.
More recent provisional data show signs of progress. An estimated 87,000 people died from drug overdoses between October 2023 and September 2024—down from approximately 114,000 the previous year.
This decline reflects the impact of multiple efforts, including the widespread, data-driven distribution of naloxone, a life-saving medication that can reverse an overdose
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, February 25, 2025).
HERE’S WHERE TO START:
💙 Stay informed. Understand how fentanyl is impacting your community.
💙 Be prepared. Learn the signs of an overdose and carry naloxone (Narcan).
💙 If you're a parent, don't avoid the conversation. Talk to your kids about fake pills and the risks.
IF YOU’RE THE ONE STRUGGLING:
You deserve a chance at recovery. We need you here. We want you to know that we believe there is hope. Hope to make it through the next minute. The next day. The next week. Please hold on. We see you fighting, and we believe in you. We believe recovery is possible.
