Most people think IOP is just therapy.

But one of the most important parts of the program often happens outside the therapy room.

At Rising Up, our case managers help clients navigate the real-life challenges that can make healing feel overwhelming.

Because even when you’re doing the work in therapy, things like this still come up:

How do I find the right providers?
What if I need more support outside of sessions?
How do I manage everything else going on in my life?

This is where case management makes a real difference.

Our case managers help clients:

• Break down what feels overwhelming into manageable steps
• Coordinate care between therapists, medical providers, and other supports
• Connect with community resources, groups, and services
• Build a plan that actually works in real life, not just in session

Healing does not happen in isolation. It happens when the support around you starts to make sense.

If you are a Massachusetts resident looking for more comprehensive mental health support—or a therapist seeking a program that truly supports the whole person—Rising Up is here to help.

What if mental health treatment looked beyond symptoms—and focused on the whole person?

At Rising Up IOP, we believe lasting change happens when care goes deeper than a diagnosis.

Dr. Jessee Valentine, our Medical Director, explains the difference between traditional mental health treatment and a more holistic approach. While medication and weekly therapy can be effective for some, they often focus on a narrower slice of the human experience.

A holistic model considers the full picture: mind, body, and spirit.

For many clients in Massachusetts navigating anxiety, depression, and trauma, healing isn’t just about symptom reduction—it’s about reconnecting with purpose, understanding personal goals, and building a life that feels meaningful and sustainable.

At Rising Up, our intensive outpatient program integrates clinical care with whole-person support. We recognize that each individual has unique needs, and treatment should reflect that.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to mental health—and the most effective care meets people where they are.

There’s a kind of grief that doesn’t ask for your attention loudly.

It’s just… there.

In your body.
In your reactions.
In moments you didn’t expect.

And because it’s not as obvious, it often goes unprocessed.

Not because you’re avoiding it — but because you haven’t been shown a way to work with it that actually creates relief.

A lot of people don’t seek support for grief because they think they already know what they would say.

They’ve thought about it.
They’ve talked about it before.
They don’t want to sit and go through it all again.

But healing doesn’t always come from saying more.

Sometimes it comes from giving your body a way to process what hasn’t fully moved.

There’s a point in grief where it’s not as intense as it once was — but it also hasn’t resolved.

It lingers in the background.
It shows up in your body.
It shapes how you feel, even when you can’t fully explain why.

And when you try to talk about it, it can feel like you’re just repeating something you already understand.

This is where many people — and many clients — get stuck.

“I Don’t Want Group Therapy” Is Something We Hear All the Time

And honestly… it makes sense.

Most people picture group therapy as awkward, uncomfortable, or even overwhelming. The idea of sharing personal experiences in front of others can feel like too much.

But what actually happens in a well-supported group is very different.

Over time, people begin to notice:

• They are not the only one feeling this way
• Others understand in a way that feels immediate and real
• Shame starts to soften through shared experience
• Support becomes more consistent, not just once a week

For many, group therapy becomes the place where things finally start to shift.

At Rising Up, our virtual group programs are designed to feel structured, safe, and supportive. Clients can join from home while still experiencing real connection and guidance from experienced clinicians.

Group therapy is not about being put on the spot.
It is about being supported while you figure things out.

If you are a Massachusetts resident exploring mental health support, or a therapist looking for a trusted IOP referral option, we are here to help.

Isolation fuels mental health struggles—connection is what helps people heal.

At Rising Up IOP, community isn’t just a part of treatment—it’s a core part of the healing process.

Dawn Nardi, our Senior Case Manager, shares an important truth: many mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, and trauma, are intensified by isolation and the cycle of internal thoughts. When people are left alone with those thoughts, symptoms often deepen.

That’s why our intensive outpatient program in Massachusetts focuses on building meaningful connection.

Through group therapy, shared experiences, and guided support, clients begin to understand how their mind works, learn grounding techniques like breathwork, and develop healthier ways to respond to stress. Most importantly, they realize they’re not alone.

Community creates perspective.
Connection creates regulation.
And together, they create change.

Some of the hardest grief to explain is the kind that doesn’t look intense on the outside anymore.

You’re functioning.
You’re getting through your days.
But there’s a constant underlying weight that never really lifts.

And when you try to talk about it, it either feels repetitive… or it doesn’t actually change anything.

This is where a lot of people get stuck.

Not because they’re unwilling to heal — but because they haven’t been shown how to process it differently.

On Thursday, April 23rd at 12:00 PM ET, Rising Up Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program is hosting a free virtual workshop for Massachusetts residents and therapists:

Grief is not just something you think about. It is something your body carries.

For many people, grief does not move just because we talk about it. It can feel heavy, stuck, or constantly present, even when we understand it intellectually.

That is because grief lives in the nervous system, not just the mind.

At Rising Up, we integrate approaches from energy psychology and somatic therapy to support deeper healing. These methods help people process grief in a way that includes both the emotional and physical experience.

Some of the approaches we use include:

• EMDR, which helps the brain and body process loss and trauma
• Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT tapping), which can reduce emotional intensity and support regulation
• Meditation and breathwork to create moments of grounding and safety

These practices are not about “fixing” grief. They are about helping people move through it in a way that feels supported, embodied, and sustainable.

For therapists, this can offer an additional pathway for clients who feel stuck in traditional talk therapy.

For individuals, it can create space for healing that feels more accessible and real.

If you are in Massachusetts and navigating grief, or supporting someone who is, we are here to help.
