Women have been sold a big lie. Early on they’ve been culturally conditioned to get an education, establish a career, get married, raise a family and retire. Essentially, a wife has been conditioned into believing she should do it all by continuously giving to her husband, children and career. The theme is to continuously give and barely receive.

She loses her maiden name when she gets married. “I” is changed to “We” and she loses her identity. Hopefully, her partner is an active participant in cooking, cleaning and raising their children. This isn’t always the case because men have been culturally conditioned to be the breadwinner.

If the wife has a career she may feel obligated to give up her power and independence. Why? Day care is typically $1,500 per month. Unless she’s self-employed or finds remote work she needs to stay at home to raise her children.

Now she’s trapped raising her children while her husband has the luxury to pursue his goals, dreams and aspirations.

20 years goes by quickly while her life is on auto-pilot. Her children are adults. They moved out of the house for college or to pursue their lives. Now she’s experiencing empty nest syndrome. This is typically when a woman goes through a mid-life crisis. She did everything right. She checked off the boxes however she doesn’t understand why she’s still not happy and healthy. At this point perhaps she’s anxious, depressed, over weight and has chronic pain. Her body tried to get her attention but she ignored the signs.

She hears the little voice inside her soul nudging her in the right direction. She drowns it out with denial, shopping, alcohol or prescription medications. She gave up her goals, dreams and aspirations to raise her family. Now what? She’s not young and lost that competitive edge to join the work force. Or perhaps the complacency of being a stay at home parent has become too familiar to pursue her own God given gifts, talents and purpose.
