Is it safe to take Tylenol and ibuprofen together? 🤔

These two meds actually work BETTER together rather than separately.

It's safe the majority of the time (depending on your case). If you're my patient just text me and I can help with dosing.
I’m Dr. Josh, a board-certified family physician and owner of Independent Family Doctors, a direct primary care clinic.

Heartburn after meals and STILL miserable even on meds? 😮‍💨 This is for you:

Most people reach for the heartburn medicine when they're in pain. That's the wrong time to take it.

✅ If you want those meds to work so you're not in pain after a meal, you gotta take them 30 minutes BEFORE you eat.

This will trigger your brain to produce more acid.

Of course I recommend focusing on eating whole foods (meat, eggs, fish, high-fat dairy, veggies) to help things "flow" easily again. But if you're looking for an OTC option, this is what I recommend.

Always check with your doctor first if you're not my patient.

Part 2/3: Sick kid edition 🤮 Parents have been texting us and asking about this.

If your kiddo has the flu and is puking, this will help! Keeping them hydrated with sugar-free electrolytes (like Pedialyte or Little Ones) will help them recover faster. Don't worry about food, just focus on giving them liquids.

Leave a comment, send us a message, if you have questions.

👉 I posted a video yesterday on kids + coughing, and a simple at-home test YOU can do to tell if this is more serious than just a cough.

Are you looking for affordable, predictable primary care?

Email me (Jane) to join our primary care clinic, I'd love to answer any questions you might have:

Part 1/3: Sick kid edition 🤮

Parents, if your kiddo is coughing and you're worried, try this at-home test:

1. Lay your kiddo down in a quiet room.
2. Place your ear on their back, on the right side, near the shoulder blade.
3. Listen to their breathing for a few minutes.

Don't hear anything weird? They're probably okay.

If you hear popping (like popcorn) or paper-like sounds (paper rubbing together) - message your doctor because this could be something more serious than a cough, like bronchitis or pneumonia.

Don't have a doctor you can text?

We offer direct texting with our doctor and BONUS! It's the same doctor every time.

Email me (Jane) to join our primary care clinic, I'd love to help you get started:

Parents, if your child is struggling to breath - when is it necessary to take them to the ER? Here are the red flags I pay attention to as a doctor.

If you're a patient, please text me, Jane, or Andrea because we help with this all the time and we know how to help your kiddo ASAP.

Brianna Error, we hope this helps - you left an inquiry on this topic awhile back. We made this with you in mind.

Meet the Doctor

Dr. Leavitt is a board-certified family physician. He received his undergraduate biology degree at University of Utah, his medical degree (DO) at Touro Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine, and his residency training locally at Family Medicine Residency of Idaho. During residency, he, along with his wife and three children, fell in love with the Treasure Valley and the rest of Idaho and decided to put down roots.

He enjoys working in family medicine because of its variety and because of his love for continual learning. Getting to know patients well and promoting healthy lifestyles is deeply important to him. He considers himself a proceduralist and prides himself on his abilities with minor surgery. He is also a hospice director and is committed to the comfort needs of the terminally ill and dying. Dr. Leavitt is also bilingual and aspires to serve more in the Hispanic communities.

When not working, he has a variety of interests that include woodworking, home improvement, gardening, and a host of additional outdoor activities. If wielding a pen, he is more likely to be sketching than writing, and if reading anything other than medical text, he is likely to be learning a new skill. He is known for being handy and is proud of his “MacGyver skills.” He is a very firm believer that laughter is one of THE best medicines.
