I used gowns and my own hands to keep her warm.

"Stay with me," our patient asked.

She was cold and didn't want to be alone.

So I stayed with her, providing the bedside comforts.

Because I could.

If I had been in a traditional setting, I would have been in a mad rush to take care of other patients. But at our DPC clinic? I was able to be with her as long as she needed me.

Everyone deserves warmth and care, including you. Remember that.

Okay, so here's what's been bugging me...

Had a patient come in last week with a sore throat he'd been dealing with for TWO WEEKS. Poor guy just needed antibiotics.

We looked up the prescription at a regular pharmacy: $35.
At our clinic pharmacy: $4.

For him, the extra $31 wasn't a huge deal. But here's what got me thinking...

How many people are sitting at home right now with a sore throat or sinus infection, trying to decide if they can afford to get it checked out?

How many are hoping it'll just go away on their own because they don't want to drop $200 at urgent care or $35 on a prescription?

And here's the scary part:

I've seen what happens when people wait too long. That "just a sore throat" can turn into a throat abscess that lands you in the ER with a specialist having to drain it.

I've literally seen this happen.

Nobody should have to choose between paying their electric bill and getting antibiotics.

That's what drives me crazy about how primary care works in most places. People are making financial decisions about their health when they should just be getting better.

This is exactly why I do what I do. Flat monthly membership. Meds at cost. No games.

Healthcare shouldn't be a luxury decision.

Anyone else ever have their luggage go missing at the airport?

It sucks. But it sucks even more if your meds are in said luggage.

That is, unless you're our patient and you can text us from anywhere in the nation ๐Ÿ˜Ž.

Andrea got a text from a patient who was stuck in Arizona without her luggage. But within 5 minutes, Andrea got her prescription sent to a pharmacy close to where she was.

Crisis averted.

Appendicitis on a Friday night.

Within 15 minutes, we were on the phone and I could tell this might turn into an emergency.

Hereโ€™s what we did:

โ€ข Quick phone triage
โ€ข Antibiotic in-hand within an hour (shoutout to the Walgreens Boise team ๐Ÿ™Œ)
โ€ข Follow-up on Saturday + Sunday
โ€ข Clinic visit Monday + exam
โ€ข Imaging confirmed a mild appendix issue

โœ… Pain fizzled out that week = no ER, no urgent care, no surgery.

Meet the Doctor

Dr. Leavitt is a board-certified family physician. He received his undergraduate biology degree at University of Utah, his medical degree (DO) at Touro Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine, and his residency training locally at Family Medicine Residency of Idaho. During residency, he, along with his wife and three children, fell in love with the Treasure Valley and the rest of Idaho and decided to put down roots.

He enjoys working in family medicine because of its variety and because of his love for continual learning. Getting to know patients well and promoting healthy lifestyles is deeply important to him. He considers himself a proceduralist and prides himself on his abilities with minor surgery. He is also a hospice director and is committed to the comfort needs of the terminally ill and dying. Dr. Leavitt is also bilingual and aspires to serve more in the Hispanic communities.

When not working, he has a variety of interests that include woodworking, home improvement, gardening, and a host of additional outdoor activities. If wielding a pen, he is more likely to be sketching than writing, and if reading anything other than medical text, he is likely to be learning a new skill. He is known for being handy and is proud of his โ€œMacGyver skills.โ€ He is a very firm believer that laughter is one of THE best medicines.
