Let’s talk pullet eggs!
I recently saw a post asking about pullet eggs and should you hatch them. Well, I can absolutely tell you that breech chicks, stuck chicks and chicks too big to unzip from their eggs are a huge issue. I’ve had pullet eggs after a few months of laying look ok in size and under a broody hen. She hatched them just fine.

But!! Would I as a breeder, ethically sell undersized pullet eggs? Absolutely not!! Breeders should know the difference between a teenaged pullet egg and an 8-9 month plus pullet egg. There’s a huge difference after a good 4 months of laying!!

I got Ameraucana eggs from a breeder whose “hens” had been laying for 2 months I was told after the eggs had been picked up. My daughter-in-law got pullet eggs, unknowingly from a Wyandotte breeder and a Polish breeder.

Different cases, different incubators: Half the chicks are breech (5 of 12) or too big to unzip. We had some start to unzip and the cry incessantly for help. Their heads got stuck under their body without enough room to continue turning. They pip internally but have no space to unzip. It’s heartbreaking!

I rescued some of the last chicks from the latest hatch. 3 out of the last 5 are still alive as of this morning. I’ve got a breech chick on day 22 I’m checking every hour to see if the veins turn pale pink and its yolk is absorbed. Right now it’s got olive oil on its membrane and I see it’s b***y and feet in the air cell end. 😫

I cleaned all four indoor brooders and put fresh shavings in. I made a deodorizing spray with essential oils and deodorized the whole house naturally. I vacuumed the whole house and moved all the clean laundry into the bedroom so I can fold it later on the bed. Washer n dryer have been going non stop. Then I did all the Chicken chores, including cleaning out all the baby runs and putting two 5 gallon buckets of Food Grade DE in every run and under every coop! Whew!! 🙌👏🧹🪣🏡💪💪

Why does a Frizzle Hen cost so much?
Well let’s see: breeding, selection, labor, supplies, feed… Frizzles, especially large fowl are not common!! I breed them. I get 25% or less in my frizzle pens. And half or more are cockerels and not the coveted Pullet. Take that in consideration with demand!
Most frizzle Easter Eggers & Frizzle Olive Eggers pullets are started and not yet laying. A 1 year old frizzle hen capable of breeding is worth even more! BTW: the waitlist is long and usually sold out!!
