📢 Big update: the “black box” warning is being removed for menopause hormone therapy!

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced it will remove the highest-level (black box) safety warning from many hormone replacement therapy (HRT) products used for menopause.

👉 Why this matters:
-The original black box warning flagged risks like heart attack, stroke, breast cancer and dementia—based on older studies.

-Newer evidence shows that when hormone therapy is started within about 10 years of menopause onset or before age 60, the benefit-risk balance is much more favorable.

-The change is expected to improve access and reduce fear around HRT, allowing more individualized decision-making.

🔍 Things to keep in mind:
-This doesn’t mean HRT is risk-free—some therapies (e.g., estrogen alone in women with a uterus) still carry important risks.

-The type of therapy, timing of initiation, personal health history all still matter.

-Patients should talk with their healthcare provider about whether HRT is right for them.
