Larry Cronon

Larry Cronon, 81, of Winterville, Georgia, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026. He was born on January 31, 1945, to the late Albert and Sindy Coggins Cronon.

Larry was born in the old Calhoun Hospital and grew up in and around Gordon County. He began working as a teenager at Daniel’s Drive-In, where he met a nice older lady he called “Granny.” She introduced him to her daughter, the love of his life Anne Lynch, who he promptly married. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968, maintaining tanks in West Germany. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for World Spinning for his entire career. He was the last employee of the plant where he worked, helping identify, repair, and place the remaining machinery there after it shut down. He loved cars, and could identify the make, model, and year of every older car he saw on the highway. Newer vehicles? He just recommended Toyota. “They make good dependable cars.” He was a brilliant craftsman, carpenter, and mechanic. He could build it, fix it, make it run better, and keep it running clean. He is able now to confess to being the teenager that didn’t get caught when drag-racing on what would become Interstate 75. Sorry, deputies.

He was naturally funny, good-humored, and had a joke or a story ready for any occasion. He had a roaring laugh and managed to be ejected from the Fox Theater as a boy for laughing too loudly in the balcony. He spoke to every baby he saw, and they all smiled back at him. He was a good friend to those who knew him. He was quietly but incredibly generous to everyone he met in need. His greatest loves in life were his wife, his son, his grandsons, and making people smile.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Jim and Charisse Cronon, his brother Harold Cronon, his sister-in-law Ida Cronon, his grandsons Andrew Cronon and Aaron Cronon (Miranda), his great-granddaughters Nora, Ebony, Asia, and Delilah, countless nephews and nieces, and grand-nephews and grand-nieces, and so on. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Eugene Cronon, Homer Cronon, Fred Cronon, Lester Cronon, Clyde Cronon, George Robert Cronon, and Mary Derry Cronon; his sister-in-law Mana Cronon; his nieces Carolyn Cronon Carter and Stephanie Payne; and his nephew Ricky Cronon.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery.

Emory Joe McEntyre

“The Mayor of New Town”, Emory Joe McEntyre, 85 years old, left us to be with Jesus on Sunday, March 29th, 2026. A lifelong resident of Gordon County, Emory was born on November 14th, 1940, to the late Roy and Catherine McEntyre.

From a young age, Emory learned the value of hard work and being an honest businessman. He was a self-proclaimed Momma’s boy and loved his wife and children more than himself.

As a small child, Emory worked in his family’s grocery store and service station, where his affinity for fast cars and loud engines began.

He graduated from Calhoun High School in 1960, where he played football and enjoyed several sports. After high school, Emory went on to serve in the United States Navy, where he played football and served our country for four years.

After the Navy, Emory began a career at Lockheed Martin. In 1970, Emory opened a Gulf Service Station on Hwy 53 in Calhoun. For 20 years, he and his family watched as McDonald’s and several other local establishments were built on Exit 312 and provided automotive services to many celebrities who chose to stop at his station while passing through our town. In 1990, Emory owned and operated McEntyre’s Texaco in downtown Calhoun, where he retired and sold the business to his son, Michael.

Emory was the true definition of a tireless worker and honest businessman. He has spent the last 14 years working for the City of Calhoun at the recycling center. His lifelong mission was for his family to be honest, dependable, and hard-working citizens. He loved car racing, spending time at the cabin in Blairsville, and attending the Tennessee Walking Horse Celebrations.

Later in life, you could always find him “piddling” in his shop, bushhogging on his tractor, or keeping tabs on the New Town community while cruising around on his golf cart.

Emory is survived by his faithful and loving wife of 57 years, Sylvia Nicholson McEntyre, his children Monica Parker (Richie) and Michael McEntyre (Jennifer). After retirement, he became the after-school and summer entertainment for his grandchildren, Riley McEntyre, Jaden Brock, and Braxton McEntyre, where they learned how to fix anything, drive a golf cart, and explore the outdoors.

Emory was also survived by his brother Clyde McEntyre ( the late Pat McEntyre), Brother in Law Alfred Knight (late sister Linda Knight), nieces Tammy McCormick (Anthony), Kim Williams (Chris), Pam Mills, Renva Porto, Carol Monteith and nephews Sean Knight (Cindy), Blake McEntyre and Daryl Gay as well as his special bonus grandchildren Collin Parker, Sydnie Defoor (Jack), Jacob Parker (Naomi), Ivie Collins (CJ), Logan Parker (Hazel), Gavin Parker and Mac McDaniel along with several great grandchildren. Emory loved his friends and always had fun stories to tell of their many adventures. The friends and the stories are far too numerous to include, as they were such a memorable part of his life. The greatest story that “Daddy,” “Paw Paw,” “E.J.” (or whatever you affectionately knew him by) shared with many of these friends and family members was the day that his heart, life, and soul were changed for eternity when he was saved by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. That is his greatest legacy!

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 2nd at New Town Baptist Church from 11 AM to 3 PM. The funeral service will be at 4 PM. Pallbearers are Jaden Brock, Braxton McEntyre, Erik Offutt, Zane Jones, Ron Carter, Shane “Willercat” McDougle, Ronald Hayes, and Sean Knight. Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Goble, Randall Jones, Bear Carter, Gary Lanier, and Matt Chapman.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The Brannon family and staff are honored to serve the family of Emory Joe McEntyre.

Robert James Kinsey

Robert James Kinsey, 84, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at his home surrounded by the love of his family. He was born December 15, 1941, to the late Jody and Dorthey Jackson Kinsey.

Robert was preceded in death by his siblings, Danny Kinsey, Jerry Fite, Martha Cloer, and Bonnie Moss; and by his beloved grandsons, Ben Burns, Cody Johns, and Brandon Johns, whom he loved dearly and held close in his heart.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 48 years, Laura Lynn Kinsey, along with his children: Derrick Kinsey (Beth), Jody Jarrett (Kim), Mike Johns, Mitchell Johns (Dora), Dreama Wofford, and Michelle Johns. He was also a proud grandfather to Gage Kinsey, Ian Kinsey, John Wofford, Alex Jarrett, Emily Jarrett, Ella Jarrett, Josh Gregory (Caitlin), Caleb Johns, and Brooke Holden (Stevie), each of whom brought him great joy.

Robert will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a man whose life was firmly rooted in faith. A devout Christian with a kind and gentle spirit, Robert dedicated much of his life to serving others and sharing the love of Christ.

For 17 years he served in ministry as a foreign missionary, traveling to Peru, Africa, India, Israel, and throughout the Amazon. His heart for service continued at home as well, where he faithfully ministered to residents through a nursing home ministry for 15 years and served as a deacon at Meadowdale Baptist Church for 17 years. He was a member of Meadowdale Baptist Church for 25 years before later attending First Baptist Woodstock for eight years.

Robert’s ministry extended beyond the church walls. For many years he worked for Yellow Freight as a professional transportation driver, safely traveling more than three million miles. Even while on the road, he found ways to share his faith and encourage those he met along the way.

Outside of his work and ministry, Robert enjoyed the simple blessings of life. He loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, being outdoors, and caring for animals. He also had a special appreciation for antique cars. Some of his happiest moments were gathered around the table with loved ones, sharing stories and a home-cooked meal.

Robert’s life was one of quiet strength, steadfast faith, and genuine kindness. The legacy he leaves behind is one of love, service, and devotion to God and family—values that will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.

A celebration of Robert’s life will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to H***n Hospice, Leamon Smith, Faye and Ron Bentley, and many caring friends for their kindness, support, and compassion during this time.
