Meet Todd! Todd had a long journey to recovery with our OT team, and we are so proud of his hard work. Take a look at his patient testimonial that he shared with us 👇
“In March of 2024 I rolled my side by side (UTV) and had a significant hand crush injury to my left hand. After going to the local ER, I was life flighted to Curtis National Hand center at Union Memorial Hospital. I had multiple open fractures to my hand and multiple open fractures to both my middle and ring fingers and at risk of losing both fingers to amputation. I had surgery the following morning where the surgeons were able to save both fingers and hand with screws and open pin fixations. Initially, I was told that I would never have full use of my middle finger and may never bend it enough to make a fist. I was also still at risk of having to amputate that finger.
Over the next year I had 3 other surgeries to repair my middle finger with a bone graft as well as more screws and plates. During this time, I was in hand OT at CAO 3 days a week. After about a year and 3 separate infections to my hand, it was discovered that I had a staph infection in my hand which required another surgery to remove the hardware in my middle finger in April of 2025. After my final surgery I continued therapy at CAO and made significant progress.
After 18 months, 5 Surgeries and hundreds of therapy visits, I have regained full use of my hand. In September 2025, I graduated therapy and am back to my normal self! Lifting weights, golfing, playing hockey and baseball without any limitations.
I could not imagine where I would be without DeNeah and Kayla at CAO. It was a long road, and it wasn’t easy, but they saved my hand. Literally! I cannot begin to thank them enough for what they did for me. Thank you DeNeah and Kayla and the CAO team!”
