Adoptions Together and FamilyWorks Together are now Paths for Families! Paths for Families is an adoption and family well-being organization that builds and sustains families and advocates for best practices in the community. For 33 years, we’ve woven human-centered care, evidence-based practices, and trauma-informed expertise into the lives of more than 15,000 children and families across DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Understanding every path is unique, we support family growth and strengthening through education and counseling, infant adoption options, foster care adoption, family-finding, home studies and post-placements, professional and organizational training, and community outreach and support programming. Our vision is that every child will grow and thrive within a caring, supportive family and community:

Meet Traverious in today's Feature! 💜

Traverious is an active and curious teen who is soft-spoken and respectful. He loves to spend his days playing outside, building with legos, flying kites, fishing, doing yard work, and playing and watching sports.

Traverious would benefit from academic support in school and at home. He is looking for a forever family that can provide him with structure and would do best in a family without pets or younger children.

Social workers change lives, and the impact is real.🩷

In the past year alone, Paths for Families’ social workers delivered thousands of counseling sessions, guided families through adoption and permanency journeys, and trained professionals across child‑ and family‑serving systems.

As we near the end of Social Work Month, your gift ensures children and families never have to navigate these journeys alone.

And right now, your generosity goes twice as far: every dollar given before April 30 is matched up to $7,500, doubling your impact! Give today and honor the social workers who make it happen.

Social work is more than compassion; it’s a calling rooted in courage, skill, and deep commitment.

This month, our team shared why they chose this profession, and their stories reflect what social work looks like at Paths for Families: trusted professionals meeting children and families with empathy, accountability, and heart, especially in life’s most complex moments. 🩷

When you give, you're investing in people who walk alongside families, build trust, and create lasting change.

Right now, your generosity goes even further. Every gift is matched dollar for dollar up to $7,500 through April 30, doubling your impact during our Spring Campaign!

We're proud to share that Audra Hurd and Amanda Bache took the stage at NTEN's Nonprofit Technology Conference in Detroit this month! They presented two sessions: "No Consultant? No Problem: DIY Strategic Planning with AI" and "Disaster Recovery & Incident Response Essentials for Accidental Techies."

Both sessions reflect their commitment to helping nonprofits build organizational strength through the thoughtful, ethical use of technology; empowering teams to work smarter and do more with the resources they have.

We're incredibly proud to have such forward-thinking leaders representing Paths for Families on a national stage! 👏

35 years ago, Janice Goldwater, a passionate social worker, founded Paths for Families with a simple, but powerful belief: every child deserves a loving, permanent family.

Today, social workers remain the heart of our work, providing ethical, trauma‑informed care that helps children and families truly thrive. 🩷

This , we invite you to support our Spring Campaign. Our goal is to raise $15,000 by April 30! Right now, every gift is matched dollar for dollar up to $7,500, doubling your impact for children and families.

Give today and honor the social workers who make this work possible.

Last month, our Director of Adoption and Permanency Services, Pam Hoehler, represented Paths for Families at Maryland Nonprofits' 2026 Evening of Advocacy in Annapolis.

She joined fellow private child‑placing agencies to meet with lawmakers and advocate for stronger protections for children, expectant parents, and adoptive families across Maryland.

Advocacy continued later that month when Pam and our Pregnancy Social Worker, Meshan Lehmann, testified in support of House Bill 1258, sponsored by Maryland Delegate Stephanie Smith, which would prohibit advertising by unlicensed child placement providers.

Our Story

Since 1990, Adoptions Together has helped more than 10,000 children join loving, permanent families. Every child who has come to us has become part of a permanent loving home. Each year, we help more than 150 infants and children join nurturing, stable homes. We provide prenatal support and counseling for pregnant women considering adoption services as well as interim care and placement for infants and children in need. Annually, we guide and support more than 300 pregnant women to help them make the best decision for their child. We also work with local social services departments to find permanent homes or connections for older children in foster care.

Adoptions Together is committed to building and strengthening secure, loving families. One of the agency’s guiding principles is inclusivity: factors such as race, religion, marital status, wealth or sexual preference, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression don’t determine what kind of parent someone will be and they are never variables that we consider when finding a home for a child. Through openness, honesty and communication we work with every family to ensure that they receive the education, support and guidance they need through the entire placement process. We understand that no decision in this process is an easy one, and we stand by our commitment to children and their families to help all those involved make the best choice for the child.

Adoptions Together is far more than just an adoption agency. We are a lifelong resource for families where information, support and counseling can always be found. Adoptions Together supports children and families formed through adoption, guardianship, foster care, and kinship care with specialized services offered at locations in Maryland, Virginia and DC. Our support remains available to every family for a lifetime of guidance, education, and counseling to ensure that each family stays strong together. With a holistic network of more than three dozen innovative services that build and strengthen families, Adoptions Together is one of the most diverse nonprofit social service agencies serving the Washington/Baltimore area.We also serve as a regional center of knowledge and activity on child welfare issues for a broad spectrum of educational, mental health, and other professionals as well as legislators, public officials, and the general population.
