The soleus muscle plays a key role in lower extremity function, especially during walking, running, and standing activities. As a primary stabilizer of the ankle, the soleus helps control forward movement of the tibia and supports proper load distribution through the foot and knee. When this muscle becomes tight or overworked, it can contribute to ankle stiffness, Achilles tension, and increased stress on the knee and foot.
Dysfunction in the soleus may also affect overall movement mechanics, leading to compensations throughout the lower extremity. Through a combination of chiropractic care, Active Release Techniques (ART®), and extremity manipulation, we work to improve tissue mobility, restore proper joint motion, and support more efficient movement patterns. Addressing the soleus can play an important role in improving performance and reducing strain throughout the lower body.
