Common Juniper (Juniperus communis)

Juniper doesn’t comfort , it clears.(and doesn’t taste my favorite by a landslide 😂)

Native to much of North America, juniper berries were traditionally used to stimulate digestion and support the urinary system during long winters of heavy food and inactivity. It’s sharp, resinous, and unapologetic , exactly what January calls for.

Traditional uses:
• Digestive sluggishness
• Urinary tract support
• Mild antimicrobial
• Clearing mental fog

How it was used:
Berries lightly crushed and steeped, or used sparingly as a seasoning and medicinal infusion.
*in some instances it was used as a natural yeast to level baked goods and breads. Along with fermentation of alcohol
