Farmstead Scattering Garden

Farmstead Scattering Garden Farmstead Scattering Garden is a mail-in service to spread the cremated ashes of your loved ones on a working farm in northwestern PA.

Our peaceful farm setting provides a unique opportunity to honor their memory. Our farm is filled with rich stories, a sense of adventure, and a tranquil environment, making it a perfect place to celebrate and remember a life well-lived. Let us help you create a lasting and joyful tribute in harmony with nature. Please visit our web page to start your afterlife farming adventure: https://farmsteadscattering.com/

How does it work? You mail in the ashes via USPS (https://faq.usps.com/s/article/Shipping-Cremated-Remains-and-Ashes), and we will scatter them on our farm at the location you designate at the time of order. We also offer various additional options to ensure the process aligns with your wishes. You can select the timing, weather conditions, and scattering experience that best reflect your loved one's spirit and connection to farming. We will post regular photos and information about what is happening on the farm so that you can keep up-to-date with the adventures along with your loved ones. We certainly want to hear from you through messenger, but we do not allow commenting on our posts on purpose. For those who have entrusted us with their loved ones, they come to this page to see what is happening on the farm, and we want them to be able to see that only through their eyes.

I have taken a bunch of photos over the past week, but somehow haven't actually posted them. So here is a rundown of Farmstead photos, and the general story is the weather hasn't been able to decide if it wants to be spring or summer, so we always have multiple layers. Last weekend, John and I left the kids in charge of the farm, and we drove to the eastern side of the state to pick up a gate that has been on our list of things to do for a couple of years. We zigzagged there and back, appreciating Pennsylvania and all it has to offer, plus a few tractor dealerships. We got back home close to midnight and found our first calf of the season snuggled in and doing well.

We had some CRAZY winds at Farmstead Scattering Garden last night. All good, but how bad was it? Bad enough, it busted apart the bottom of a slider barn door AND the block we put in front of it for high wind days. Yikes!

This weekend, we saw the last of the snow melting off, though you can still see the snow on our local ski hill in the background. As we welcome spring, the sounds change. We heard peeper frogs last week, and the birds are getting louder, which is always nice to see. Here are a few photos from last week.

The skunk cabbage started to emerge this weekend, which is usually the first thing to sprout. Considered a wildflower, the skunk cabbage is not exactly the wildflower we look for here. We do have the first of our spring calves due at the end of this month. The peeper frogs are in full song, and the birds are all returning. Lots of things to look forward to at the change of every season!

Winter threw a small temper tantrum yesterday, but it is expected to be in the 50’s by Wednesday, so this is short lived. It was still a pretty morning at Farmstead Scattering Garden! Once the ground dries up, we are looking forward to getting rid of the tree we took down this winter, and we will move the stump to our upper wildflower patch.

Ooh- this is good news. Hummingbirds always fascinated my mother-in-law which then transferred to everyone in the Bridger family. Welcome back soon to the Hummingbirds!

The first hummingbird sightings are in along the Gulf coast. Get those hummingbird feeders out!

Well, the snow is pretty, but the birds are chirping loudly and you can feel the spring coming!

We had a chance to hike up to the woods and also visit the beaver dam purple wildflower patch yesterday. The creek is still frozen over and you can see the deer have been using it as a pathway. Spring is springing at Farmstead Scattering Garden!
