Our hearts go out to everyone in Nebraska affected by the recent wildfires. As a practice, we have been helping through donations-but we also want to show up in another way. We are currently prioritizing appointments for wildfire survivors who are in need of mental health support.

If you or someone you love has been impacted, please don't hesitate to reach out. Healing takes many forms, and we're here for yours. 🌿

As wildfires spread across western Nebraska, burning over 800,000 acres of land, Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services and local partners are reminding Nebraskans of mental health resources available.

Ever feel like different “parts” of you show up in different moments?

Like one part wants to stay calm… while another feels anxious, overwhelmed, or reactive?

That’s where IFS comes in ✨

IFS (Internal Family Systems) is a gentle, empowering therapy approach that helps you understand and connect with the different parts of yourself—without judgment.

Instead of asking “What’s wrong with me?”
We explore: “What part of me is showing up right now—and why?”

🌿 You might notice:
• A protective part that avoids conflict
• A perfectionist part that pushes you to do more
• A younger part that holds past hurt
• A critical voice trying to keep you safe

Here’s the key:
All parts have a purpose—even the ones that feel uncomfortable.

Through IFS, we work to:
✨ Build self-awareness
✨ Create compassion for every part of you
✨ Heal wounded parts at their core
✨ Strengthen your “Self”—the calm, grounded, confident

IFS, or parts work, allows ALL parts of us to exist without judgment. Leading from our internal center, the true Self that is compassionate, curious, and centered. Life can becomes less about controlling every detail and more about trusting your innate power to navigate whatever comes 🌿

📍 March 23 – First United Methodist Church of Gothenburg

DBT, or Dialectical Behavior Therapy, is a skills-based approach that helps people better understand and manage their emotions while building healthier ways to cope with stress and relationships.

Through DBT, clients learn practical tools like mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and communication skills that can be used in real-life situations.

If you often feel overwhelmed by emotions or stuck in patterns that aren’t serving you, DBT can provide supportive, structured strategies for change.

✨ Stay tuned as we share more about the different therapy approaches we offer.

Taking care of someone with health issues requires us to take care of ourselves . It is essential to our physical and emotional health.

Being a caregiver is incredibly meaningful—but it can also be exhausting. You don’t have to do it alone. 💙

If you care for someone with a special health care need, the Nebraska Lifespan Respite Program may be able to help. This program supports caregivers by helping cover the cost of temporary care so you can take a well-deserved break and recharge.

Respite support can be used for things like:
☀️ Summer camps
👥 Weekly community programs
🏡 In-home or stand-in care from a provider you choose

Program support may include:
• Up to $125 per month for respite care
• Up to $2,000 in additional support for individuals with exceptional needs

We encourage all caregivers to apply, regardless of financial circumstances. Many factors go into eligibility, so don’t count yourself out—you may qualify!

Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity for mental health services at ZERO COST to you.

If finances have been a barrier in receiving mental health support- we hear you.

Working with our intern, Zoey, could be the perfect opportunity for you to begin your healing journey ✨🌿

Access to mental health care can feel overwhelming for many families, especially when cost is a barrier. A new opportunity in Cambridge is helping remove that barrier.

Zoey Urling, a graduate student completing her Clinical Mental Health Counseling internship at Medicine Creek Counseling, is currently offering free, in-person counseling services as part of her supervised clinical training.

Zoey is available in the Cambridge office on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon. There are no income requirements or eligibility restrictions for the free sessions, and there is no limit to the number of visits.

Clients of all ages are welcome. Zoey especially enjoys working with children and adolescents and is currently supporting individuals experiencing ADHD, anxiety, and depression. She works with a wide range of concerns, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and believes counseling should be tailored to each individual’s unique needs and experiences.

When someone reaches out, they can expect a phone call within 24–48 hours. A brief 15–20 minute consultation helps the team understand the client’s needs and determine the best counselor match. While Zoey is accepting clients, placement with a specific provider is not guaranteed, as the goal is to connect each individual with the best fit.

Services with interns are offered free of charge because graduate students are completing required, supervised clinical hours prior to full licensure. Zoey is supervised by Sarah at Medicine Creek Counseling.

To request an appointment, visit medicinecreekcounseling.com/contact-page or call 308-697-3003 or 308-737-3051.

Medicine Creek Counseling also has a Cozad office and additional providers, including telehealth options.

For those in Cambridge and surrounding communities looking for support, this is an accessible and welcoming place to start.

Understanding EMDR ✨🌿

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a therapy approach designed to help the brain process and heal from difficult or distressing experiences.

Sometimes when something overwhelming happens, the brain stores the memory in a way that keeps the emotions, sensations, and beliefs connected to it feeling “stuck.” This is why certain memories or triggers can continue to bring up strong reactions long after the event has passed.

EMDR helps the brain reprocess these experiences so they feel less distressing and easier to hold. During EMDR, therapists use bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements or tapping) while a person briefly focuses on aspects of a memory.

Over time, this process can help reduce the emotional intensity connected to the experience and allow the brain to integrate the memory in a healthier way.

The goal isn’t to erase the past, but to help it feel like something that happened — rather than something you’re still reliving.

CPTSD is not a "mental illness." CPTSD an injury to our nervous & endocrine systems. CPTSD increases our vulnerability to physical pain & illness. CPTSD makes our relationships complicated in ways we do not choose or want. No one "chooses" CPTSD. CPTSD is NOT due to "victim mindset." Survivors do not identify as having CPTSD because it is "trendy."

And: CPTSD is NOT the ultimate destiny of ANYONE reading this.

With the red flag warnings, the extreme drought, winds, and smoke in the air, some bodies are remembering.

For the men who fought that last fire…

For the wives who waited, not knowing if their husbands were coming home…

For the families who evacuated…

For those who lost land, livestock, and neighbors…

If you’re feeling more on edge, restless, irritable, or having trouble sleeping — that makes sense.

When we’ve lived through chaos before, the nervous system stores it. Sirens, wind, smoke — they can bring it back fast.

This community showed incredible strength last time. We pulled together. We supported each other. That resilience is still here.

But strength doesn’t mean your body doesn’t react.

If it’s hard to settle back down, you don’t have to carry that alone.

We’re here. We can help make sense of what you are feeling and work to move that energy from your bodies.
