I leveled up! Today I finished up a Coursera course on multivariate calculus for machine learning, which was preceded by linear algebra for machine learning and Google’s crash course in Python a few months ago. The greatest thing I learned from these courses is how to pay attention to very fine details (and the importance of doing so), and how to be extremely patient when problem-solving. I’m far from being a math or coding virtuoso, but I still rose to the challenge and look forward to learning more! āļø

Years before I entered the counseling profession, I was a human factors researcher. Human factors is the science of psychology combined with engineering, user experience, ergonomics, and interactive systems. I haven’t done human factors research in many years, but the Human Factors/UX Leadership consortium still welcomed me to attend some sessions at the Rochester Institute of Technology a few weeks ago. There are many important human factors considerations for telehealth and technology in psychotherapy, and I’m looking forward to getting Two Rivers involved with the latest innovations! šŸ’”

I will be in Las Vegas this June presenting research on Marymount's HRSA BWHET grant program, a $1.2 million federal grant-funded fellowship program for clinical mental health counseling interns to provide therapeutic services to medically-underserved populations, including low-income/Medicaid patients, homeless populations, rural populations, the LGBTQ+ community, and at-risk youth. Enhancing access to mental health care for medically-underserved populations is an issue that I'm passionate about, and serving as the HRSA Scholars Advisor and research team member for this project has been a true honor and pleasure. Clinicians and educators, if you are interested in collaborating for projects like this one, send me a message!

Check out my latest piece, An Autoethnographic Study of Interdisciplinary Behavioral Health in K-12 Students, in the Kōrero online academic journal. This paper draws from my experiences across a range of professional and academic roles in human factors research, applied behavior analysis, and clinical mental health to explore implications for improving the well-being of children and adolescents in educational settings.
