✈️ Helping Harvard explore the world safely and confidently

Meet Krister Anderson, Associate Director for International Consulting and Projects with Harvard Global Support Services. His team helps students prepare for international travel, navigate visas, and get support in the event of an emergency abroad.

For Krister, the best part of the job is helping students access life-changing global experiences, just like the one that shaped his own path when he conducted thesis research in Morocco.

His advice to students is simple:
Stay curious, be open to unexpected opportunities, and trust the process. Sometimes the experience you never planned for becomes the one that changes everything.

🌍 Finding fluency, community, and a calling.

Meet Sophia, a junior who has spent six semesters studying Portuguese at Harvard – a journey that led her to the first-ever Harvard Summer School in Brazil and a fully immersive, transformative experience abroad.

From becoming fluent in Portuguese to building lifelong relationships with faculty and peers, Sophia discovered how language opens doors to whole worlds, and shapes her dream of working across South America and the broader Portuguese-speaking diaspora on issues like climate change and ecosystem preservation.

And yes… she recommends trying coxinhas. 😉

🌏 From Harvard to rural Vietnam.

Meet Sofia, a Harvard sophomore studying Neuroscience who spent her summer volunteering with Coach for College – teaching physics and volleyball to middle-school students in Long Mai, Vietnam.

Through cross-cultural connection, hands-on teaching, and serving students with fewer resources, she discovered how small actions can spark real impact, and how experiences like this shape her path toward a future career in medicine.
