3rd chakra Yoga (the 'power chakra') Mon 6-7:15 pm & Tues 11:00-noon. Located in the solar plexus, it and governs our gut instinct, self-confidence, willpower, personal responsibility, and honest emotional expression. Deficient energy here can mean low self-esteem, sensitivity to criticism, poor digestion, or feelings of shame. Excessive energy can mean anger, jealousy, perfectionism, an inflated ego, or bullying. When in balance, this chakra can help connect us with our personal power, joy, abundance, generosity, and intuitive gut wisdom - and it s the source of deep belly laughter. In class we'll do lots of 'opening and closing' kinds of movements (think cat/cow, sun salute, etc), strengthening our core, and stabilizing muscles to help open and balance this chakra. In Yoga classes this week we'll focus on grounding yoga to awaken and balance our Root Chakra - the energy center located at the base of the spine, governing the feet, legs and lower spine. The 1st Chara is the foundation of our physical and emotional well-being, associated with survival, stability, and a sense of security. When out of balance, it may manifest as fear, anxiety, insecurity or being overly controlling; when in balance we feel more centered, resilient, safe, connected, and confident. Yoga for Breast Health: today (Mon 6-7:15 pm), Tues (11-noon) & Thurs (11-noon) we will do yoga to bring energy, circulation, and health to our breast area, including chest, upper back, armpits, shoulders, neck, and arms; of course we will also do stretches and strengtheners there and elsewhere.
