Earlier this month, Metro Boston self-advocates attended the 21st Annual Autism Advocacy Day. This event was centered on “Safeguarding Our Future: Defending Critical Services for the Autism Community,” and was held at the Massachusetts State House.

This event brought together self- advocates, community members, and leaders to raise awareness and facilitate meaningful change for individuals with autism and disabilities. Our self- advocates had the opportunity to meet Senator Paul Feeney and State Senator Vanna Howard who were recognized as Distinguished Legislators for their commitment to supporting individuals with autism and disabilities.

This was a successful and inspiring event, and we are very proud of all those who made their voices heard.

We celebrate neurodiversity and stand alongside individuals with autism and their families every day. Through our Autism Support Center at Vinfen (ASC), we offer a wide range of services designed to empower, connect, and support.

From information and referrals to family trainings, peer support, and social opportunities, the ASC helps children and young adults with autism, and their loved ones, navigate every stage of the journey. We also provide guidance on accessing services, building community connections, and developing skills for greater independence.

Whether you’re seeking support, resources, or a sense of community, we are here for you.

Denise shared, “I can’t imagine going back to the way things were before. And I hope others won’t have to. Because everyone deserves the tools to live as independently as possible. TechConnect didn’t just give me an iPad or a phone. It gave me more of my life back.”

We're reflecting on this year’s Film Festival and how it felt so meaningful to us. We were honored to welcome nearly 400 guests to GBH Studios for a powerful day of storytelling, connection, and community.

Through inspiring films and conversations, we explored resilience, creativity, and lived experiences—sparking important dialogue and advancing our shared mission to reduce stigma and promote understanding.

A heartfelt thank you to our filmmakers, panelists, sponsors, partners, and the dedicated staff and volunteers who made it all possible. And to our incredible guests—your presence and engagement made the day truly special.

We’re grateful to share this experience with you and look forward to next year!

Last week, President and CEO Jean Yang along with leadership from Riverside Community Care, Advocates, Inc., and Bay Cove Human Services, shared our experiences with the effects of the housing voucher freeze at the State House.

It was an impactful session brought to the attention of legislators and staffers to showcase how the voucher freeze impacts people we serve, and how affordable housing is foundational to recovery for people living with serious mental health conditions.

It was wonderful to have people join us with lived experience who could speak firsthand on this matter, including Enrique Fortun, who works with Vinfen. Thank you to Massachusetts Association for Mental Health, Senator Jamie Eldridge, and Representative Sean Garballey for hosting this important briefing.
