Our office is closed for routine eye exams from 03/24-04/07 as “shelter in place” executive order was given. We still have an on call doctor to help serve you for any ocular emergencies you may have. Please call with any eye infections, eye injuries, new onset of flashes/floaters, loss of vision or any other vision threatening symptoms you may be experiencing. We are hoping to slow congestion at our local ER and family physician offices as their services are needed to contain potential COVID-19 patients in our community

We will have an optician and doctor in office on 03/24-03/26 and 03/31-04/01 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to schedule future appointments, place contact lens orders, dispense glasses to your car, refill prescriptions as deemed necessary and answer any questions regarding your ocular health.

Thank you for your support,

Superior Vision

Do not expose your contact lenses to any water: tap, bottled, distilled, lake or ocean water. Never use non-sterile water (distilled water, tap water or any homemade saline solution). Tap and distilled water have been associated with Acanthamoeba keratitis, a corneal infection that is resistant to treatment and cure.

This is a photo of corneal melting and vascularization in a patient with Acanthamoeba keratitis.

Acanthamoeba keratitis is a rare but serious infection of the eye that can result in permanent visual impairment or blindness. This infection is caused by a microscopic, free-living ameba (single-celled living organism) called Acanthamoeba. Acanthamoeba causes Acanthamoeba keratitis when it infects the transparent outer covering of the eye called the cornea. Acanthamoeba amebas are very common in nature and can be found in bodies of water (for example, lakes and oceans), soil, and air.

Acanthamoeba keratitis is most common in people who wear contact lenses, but anyone can develop the infection. For people who wear contact lenses, certain practices can increase the risk of getting Acanthamoeba keratitis:

👉 Storing and handling lenses improperly
👉 Disinfecting lenses improperly (such as using tap water or homemade solutions to clean the lenses)
👉 Swimming, using a hot tub, or showering while wearing lenses
👉 Coming into contact with contaminated water
👉 Having a history of trauma to the cornea
