If we want to focus on longevity and health— we have to focus on giving parents regulation tools and time with their children during developmental years. These years shape our immune systems, our nervous systems, and our self worth.

I, along with my incredible co facilitator Ashley McGee,
LCSW from Tampa Bay Counseling & Consulting LLC had the opportunity to create and implement our first therapeutic couples retreat this weekend for a truly amazing organization, Warrior Community Connect.

The couples relaxed and reconnected in a serene waterside locale, took a boat tour, ate delicious food from Chef Troy Conway and Faithful Food Concepts, and most importantly learned together about evidenced based methods to strengthen their relationships using the Gottman Method.

Thank you to the organization for a wonderful experience for all ❤️

The connection between nutritional deficiencies and emotional health is important to know. I highly recommend having comprehensive panels done as well as working with registered dietitians to address concerns.

My last reel on rest had so many people talking about the messages they heard growing up:

“If you have time to lean, you have time to clean!”
“Make yourself useful”
“Don’t be lazy”
“Are you just going to sit there all day?!”

Reinforced over and over again we feel shame for not doing.

Some of us even jump up pretending to be busy if we hear someone walk into the room. It runs deep.

Rest is productive.

We’ve evolved to work hard, then rest. Our body needs parasympathetic recovery. Our mind needs to decompress and drift off. Our body needs stillness and quiet.

Think about people who are always going. Who can’t sit still. This is fight or flight energy. And if you notice, they might get s lot done but they never feel settled. Sometimes their mind is completely scattered.

Tell yourself: I AM SAFE TO REST.

Give yourself that nap. If your body needs more rest, sleep later. If you’re exhausted at 8pm put yourself into bed. Your body is speaking— listen. Guilt free
