At MUSC Health, the mission to improve lives starts in the communities we serve.

That’s why it was an honor to be part of Come-See-Me Festival, a 10-day celebration that has brought people together each spring since 1962.

This year, care teams from Lancaster, Chester and Indian Land joined in, supporting runners, walking in the parade, caring for sick teddy bears and connecting with families across the community.

Events like this reflect what matters most: caring for people and showing up where it counts.

For many people living with pelvic pain or endometriosis, getting answers can take years.

At MUSC Women’s Health, care starts by listening.

Dr. Courtney Poston takes a comprehensive approach to complex gynecologic conditions, connecting symptoms across the body to get patients closer to a diagnosis and the right treatment plan.

Because severe pain and heavy bleeding aren’t something to push through. And having answers can be life-changing!

Providing education and access to our community is at the heart of what we do

This week, two leaders from MUSC Health Chester Medical Center joined students at Lewisville Middle School in Chester County for Healthcare Career Day. Leaders Cortney Greene and Jessica Stillwell shared insights into careers in healthcare, helping students see the many opportunities available and how they might partner with MUSC Health in the future.

We’re proud to invest in tomorrow’s healthcare workforce by inspiring the next generation today.

It takes a special kind of team to do this work.

For Neurodiagnostics Week, we heard from some of our EEG (electroencephalography) unit's care team members about what drew them to the field and what keeps them here.

From a deep curiosity about the brain to the connections they build with patients and each other, their passion shows up in every interaction, every day.

Thank you for all you do, team!

A new initiative is expanding access to maternal and infant health support across the Carolinas.

The Duke Endowment and MUSC have launched a multi-state effort to scale the H.E.A.R. 4 Mamas and Babies (H4MAB) program, an evidence-informed model that uses text and phone outreach to identify medical, behavioral health and social needs early in pregnancy and the postpartum year.

By connecting patients to timely, trusted care, the program helps improve outcomes for mothers and babies and reduce disparities in access to support.

MUSC Hollings Cancer Center redesigned its scheduling approach to help patients with abdominal cancers connect with a surgical team faster. Through the Next-Day Access program, eligible patients can now be seen within 48 hours, cutting wait times from about a week to just two days.

The result is faster answers, earlier care plans, and more flexibility, including video visits for patients traveling from across the state.

After one year, the program is already improving access and is being adapted for other cancer specialties across Hollings.

We're proud to celebrate Natalie Wessels, BSN, CCTC, recipient of the 2025 Palmetto Gold Nurse Recognition Award. Natalie played a pivotal role in building the Mid‑Carolinas Kidney Transplant Program in Lancaster from the ground up, bringing life‑saving transplant care closer to home for patients who previously faced significant barriers to access.

Since launching in 2022, the program has far exceeded expectations, supporting nearly 190 kidney transplants, expanding into a strong multidisciplinary team, and improving access, quality, and patient experience for our community. Natalie’s leadership, clinical expertise, and commitment to mentoring and innovation reflect what exceptional care close to home truly looks like.

Congratulations, Natalie, and thank you for the incredible difference you make for our patients and our community.

A new chapter for health care in Berkeley County is underway.

MUSC Health broke ground today on the Nexton Medical Pavilion, a new medical office building set to open in 2027. Located across from MUSC Health Nexton Medical Center and its cancer center (also under construction), the pavilion will expand access to care for the growing community.

This milestone builds on momentum that began with the hospital’s groundbreaking last September.

Even a few minutes can make a difference in a high-stress environment.

At MUSC Health University Medical Center, the therapy animal program is piloting a dedicated respite room for care team members in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). Available around the clock, the space gives staff a chance to reset with a quick visit from a therapy animal before, during or after a shift.

As shared by Therapy Animal Program Coordinator Cathy Bennett at today's MIND conference, even brief interactions can help reduce stress and support well-being, and she hopes to expand the respite rooms to more units in the future.

What started a year ago has become a meaningful part of the MICU.

After years of pain from a herniated disc, one patient found relief through advanced spine surgery close to home.

At MUSC Health, Dr. James Lawrence performed the first cervical disc replacement at the West Ashley ambulatory surgery center, offering a highly specialized procedure in a convenient outpatient setting.

For the right patients, this approach can relieve pain, restore motion and help them return to the activities they love.
