October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, making it a fitting time to highlight Clinco Sheltered Industries, an organization that has promoted inclusion and opportunity for nearly 50 years. Founded by parents in Clinton County, Clinco was incorporated in 1974 and opened in 1976, now proudly approaching its 50th anniversary next year.

Clinco provides employment for individuals with disabilities across four surrounding counties and offers a supported employment program that helps participants gain valuable experience in community-based jobs. Their team also provides recycling services, a cleaning crew, and window washing for Cameron businesses. They continue to make a positive difference for both the local workforce and the community they serve!

Motivational Monday: Positive Recycling News- Through the efforts of Region D residents in Andrew, Clinton, and DeKalb Counties, 33 tons or 66,000 pounds of aluminum cans and steel were collected for recycling in 2024! Aluminum is one of the most recycled—and recyclable—materials in use today. A recycled aluminum beverage can, car door or window frame is often recycled directly back into itself. And this process can happen virtually infinitely. Other aluminum facts from the Aluminum Association:
— Making recycled aluminum only takes around 5% of the energy needed to make new aluminum — reducing carbon emissions and saving money for businesses and end consumers.
— As a result, around 75% of all aluminum ever produced is still in use today, as shown by comprehensive industry data.
— In many industrial markets like automotive and building, recycling rates for aluminum exceed 90%.
— Industry recycling efforts in the U.S. save more than 90 million barrels of oil equivalent each year.

Folks using DeKalb County Recycling Center OR any drop off in Region D...read the signs and please, please, please, RECYCLE RIGHT! No plastic film! No plastic crates! No plastic bags! Put plastics numbered 1-7 loosely in bins. When in doubt if it can be recycled, throw it out. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
