Please remember the West family in your prayers. 🙏🙏🙏

Willie C. West, a dedicated public servant and beloved member of the Mitchell and Dougherty County communities, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Born on May 9, 1951, in Camilla, Georgia, Willie touched countless lives through his unwavering commitment to law enforcement and his warm, welcoming personality.

A proud graduate of Mitchell County High School’s class of 1971, Willie embarked on a lifelong career in public service from the young age of 18. His professional journey began as a police officer for the City of Pelham and expanded to include roles such as Sergeant for the City of Camilla, Lieutenant with the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, and Captain at the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Department. Beyond his distinguished law enforcement career, Willie also served his community as a bus driver for the Mitchell County Board of Education, demonstrating his dedication to the safety and well-being of young individuals. At an early age he became a member of the St. John Missionary Baptist Church and was recently studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was also a member of Sale City Masonic Lodge #267.

"Sneak", as was affectionately called, was known throughout Mitchell and Dougherty counties as a pillar of strength and kindness. People respected him not only for his stern professionalism but also for his genuine compassion and ability to make others feel at ease. His great sense of humor and welcoming nature made him a cherished friend and confidant. In his personal time, Willie enjoyed working in his yard, fixing things, and spending cherished moments with his grandchildren—activities that brought him great joy and satisfaction.

Willie’s legacy is lovingly carried forward by his wife, Annie Doris West of Camilla, Georgia; his children Serless (Virgil) West-Robinson, Cicely West of Camilla, Georgia, LaDonna (Johnnie) Collins of Leesburg, Georgia, Deltalyn (Corey) West-Crocker of Ellenwood, Georgia, and Rosalyn Shivers of Killeen Texas; as well as his twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Nathan West of Putney, Georgia, Melvin (Lisa) West of San Diego, California, and Freddie (Nadine) West of Fayetteville, Georgia; sisters-in-law Maryrene Wright of Camilla, Georgia and Chiquita Wright of Richmond, Kentucky, Beulah Casuway of Camilla, Georgia; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends who will dearly miss his presence.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Roy James West and Lillie Mae West, and his two brothers, Robert Jackson and James Casuway; mother-in-law, Irene Wright; sister-in-law, Evona Richardson.

His departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his memory remains a lasting testament to a life of service, kindness, and unyielding dedication to family and community. Willie C. West will be remembered always as a man who not only protected and served but also uplifted and cared deeply for those around him.
