If you're putting your little one to bed with a bottle, make sure it’s filled with only water. Milk, juice, and formula can lead to tooth decay while your baby sleeps. Protect those tiny teeth by keeping sugary drinks out of the crib! Learn more: https://barreradds.com/

Even with great brushing habits at home, kids still need regular dental cleanings. Plaque can harden into tartar, especially in hard-to-reach spots. And once it does, it can’t be removed with a toothbrush alone. That’s why professional cleanings at Dr. B. Pediatric Dentistry can help. During your child’s visit, Dr. B will gently remove any tartar buildup, check for early signs of cavities, and keep their teeth and gums healthy as they grow.

Wondering when your child should stop seeing a pediatric dentist? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. It really depends on your child’s needs, development, and comfort level.

Most kids transition to a general dentist between ages 16 and 18, but some may be ready as early as 12 to 14 if all their permanent teeth (except wisdom teeth) are in and they feel ready for the switch. Others, especially those with special healthcare needs or dental anxiety, may stay with their pediatric dentist a bit longer.

The best way to know when it’s time? Talk with Dr. B. We’ll help guide the transition when the timing feels right for your child.

Hello, world! When those first two teeth make their appearance, it's important to start flossing! We call it the “two-teeth touching rule.” Even tiny gaps can trap plaque and food particles that brushing alone can’t remove.

Starting early sets the stage for a lifetime of healthy habits and cavity-free smiles. Need help getting started? We're happy to show you how: 408-871-2885

Let’s talk teeth-friendly foods! 🥕🧀🍎

What your child eats plays a big role in their dental health. Crunchy fruits and veggies like apples and carrots help clean teeth while they chew, and foods rich in calcium, like cheese and yogurt, help strengthen enamel.

On the flip side, sticky snacks, sugary drinks, and frequent grazing can increase the risk of cavities. We’re not saying no treats ever, just balance them with healthy choices and good brushing habits!

Cavities aren’t fun, but getting them filled doesn’t have to be a big deal.

When your child needs a filling, we take extra care to make the experience as quick and easy as possible. We start by gently numbing the area, and if your child is feeling nervous, we may offer nitrous oxide to help them relax.

Once the area is numb, we remove the decay, clean the tooth, and place a small filling. If you have any concerns, don't hesitate to ask Dr. B. If you suspect your child may have a cavity, schedule an appointment: 408-871-2885

Thumb sucking can be a comforting habit for little ones, but if it sticks around too long, it can start to affect how their mouth and teeth develop.

Most kids stop on their own between ages 2 and 4, but if your child is still sucking their thumb past age 3, it’s a good idea to check in. Ongoing thumb sucking can lead to bite issues or changes in jaw growth that might require orthodontic care down the road. With a little patience and some positive reinforcement, most kids can kick the habit. Not sure where to start? Ask Dr. B — we’re here to help!
