House Manager Position
Steps to Peace and Purpose is a recovery community providing a strong foundation for individuals committed to long term sobriety. Located in Asheville, our family oriented program is rooted in the 12-step philosophy and emphasizes spiritual growth as a daily guide. We support clients in integrating practical aspects like employment, relationships, and other personal responsibilities at a manageable pace. With a supportive environment and structured guidelines, we foster sustainable recovery and personal transformation.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on site House Manager position based in Candler, NC. The House Manager will oversee daily operations, ensure adherence to house guidelines, and provide mentorship to residents as they navigate their recovery journey. Responsibilities include supervising residents, fostering a supportive and structured environment, offering training on life skills, maintaining cleanliness, assisting with meal preparations, and ensuring a harmonious, conducive living space.
Qualifications
Strong supervisory and organizational skills to manage house operations and ensure adherence to guidelines.
Excellent communication skills to mentor residents and facilitate effective interactions among the community.
Experience in training and supporting individuals to build essential life skills.
Ability to assist with cooking and meal preparations to maintain a nurturing home environment.
A genuine commitment to fostering personal growth and creating a positive environment for recovery.
Familiarity with 12-step recovery programs or similar frameworks is highly desirable.
CPR or First Aid certification is a plus

Chopping Block
In addition to making awesome pieces, we also repurpose and upcycle old furniture into new ones! This piece started life as a cabinet, which we transformed into a kitchen Island/Chopping block on lockable wheels.

Latest Project
Large office desk made from southern oak. It's a one of a kind with inlaid American flag. The Union part of the flag is made of walnut, the stars and white stripes are maple, and the red stripes in the flag are cherry which will continue to darken and deepen in red over time.

So we decided to go bigger and here’s a sneak peek at our next project.
Using a CNC which is a precision woodworking tool we’ve begun by cutting out stars using maple wood and inserting on a walnut background keeping the colors as accurate as possible without the use of dye, stain or paint

At Steps to Peace and Purpose, we are proud to be the only sober living facility in Asheville that welcomes service dogs for our residents. These extraordinary animals are vital to the recovery journey by offering constant support, companionship, and a sense of security.

Research has demonstrated that having a service dog can greatly alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression, common obstacles during recovery. This supportive bond encourages our residents to focus on their recovery goals and stick to their daily routines, which are crucial for sustained sobriety.

By integrating service dogs into our community, we foster an inclusive and supportive environment that acknowledges and adapts to the unique needs of each individual. This not only aids sobriety but also empowers residents to heal knowing their devoted service animal is accompanying them every step of the way.

Every Wednesday, we have a Tai Chi instructor visit our facility to teach a class for all of our residents. We believe this offers a unique, holistic approach that sets us apart from other sober living facilities. This ancient martial art enhances sobriety by managing stress and anxiety through gentle movements and breathe work, fostering mindfulness and inner peace. Tai Chi connects individuals with their bodies and minds, promoting balance and harmony. It also improves physical health by boosting flexibility, strength, and cardiovascular function, complementing emotional and mental well-being. Regular practice increases self-awareness and discipline, empowering healthier choices. Our weekly Tai Chi classes highlight our commitment to a well-rounded recovery program. Embracing different modalities in recovery underlines our dedication to helping individuals find peace and purpose.
