This lasted a week, and they are still doing repairs for this current break. Reportedly, the entire system has some potentially similar conditions.

We are now into day 4, with no clean, running water for Waterbury residents.
Folks, they are sending in relief supplies of water, but...
The minimum recommendation for supplies is thought by many to be only 72 hours.
That is food, water, and everything else you would need.
That is only 3 days.
We are into day 4, and they have no idea when it will be up and running.
When we recommend a 55 gallon barrel for each member of the household, this is a prime example of why.
First of all, we are praying for all those affected.
Secondly, we don't want to see anyone in the position of buying a flat bed full of bottled water, as was witnessed on Saturday at a local warehouse club.
We have, in stock:
55 Gallon barrels, new, $105.
4.6 gallon, jugs (inexpensive) are now just $5.
5 gallon "bucket filters" $60.
(plus tax on all non-food items)

Preparedness doesn't come into play only in a "Zombie Apocalypse".

This is a lot of people to be without potable water in Waterbury Connecticut, in freezing temps..
Do you know how much clean water you go through each day, per person?
Do you have enough on hand to get by for 3 days? (72 hour kits) or 1-2 weeks?
Water storage, in bulk, is a great and relatively economical solution.

People are waking up this Monday morning it's a news of an internet provider outage. Somewhere in the chain of connections to cloud servers, something isn't working and this has resulted in an outage for many users.
This begs the question: How do you communicate with the people in your life?
If you are using internet-based tools, such as messenger apps, or email, do you have another means to communicate with the people that you need to?
Do you have phone numbers, address, or another means to touch base with them?
Do you have these written down, or stored in an app online?
For the one of the final methods, radio works as well.
Food for thought, and if you are one of the ones affected by this morning's outage, should be relatively short and duration, but there is a lesson in this. Have multiple means of communication available between yourself those you care about in your life.

MRE's.
People wonder how long they last.
Generally speaking they are good for 5-1/2 years and fresh when stored at 70 degrees.
There is a production date, and an inspection date (usually 3-5-1/2 years from the production date.)
Today I disposed of several cases of rations that were produced in 2011, with an inspection date of 2013. I inspected and tested several (what happens for each lot # at the inspection dates) and the pouches were still intact, the food still edible.

Bottom line, it will always be a buyer beware, but the foods will last longer than most people think.
This applies to Canned foods, MRE's, Freeze Dried foods and others as well.
