❄️ Winter Car Seat Safety: Keep Your Little Ones Safe & Warm ❄️
When the temperature drops, our instinct is to bundle up our kiddos. But did you know that thick winter coats and snowsuits can make a big difference in car seat safety?
Here’s what every parent/caregiver should know:
✅ Dress children in thin, snug-fitting layers rather than bulky coats when placing them in a car seat or booster. Bulky outerwear can compress in a crash, leaving extra slack in the harness or belt.

✅ Always tighten the harness or seat belt so it fits snugly against the child’s body—the harness should lie flat, shoulder straps at or below the shoulders (for rear-facing seats), and the chest clip at armpit level.

✅ Once the child is properly secured, add warmth by draping a blanket or coat (put on backward) over the harness—but not underneath the straps. This helps keep them warm without altering the strap fit.

✅ If you can, warm up the vehicle before putting children in their car seats. It reduces the need for super-heavy gear in the car. Also, never warm your vehicle in a closed garage—carbon-monoxide risks.

✅ Don’t assume “just a quick drive” means you can skip these steps—hazards like improper harness fit or quick trips still carry risk.
