Internship Opportunities
Greetings Everyone!

Counseling Services at Kent State University at Stark is looking for its next doctoral or graduate student intern for AY 2015-2016. If you are interested in clinical and/or administrative work in a college setting, this is an opportunity worth taking a look at!

An internship with Counseling Services provides clinical work with a diverse population of college students struggling with a wide variety of issues. Along with clinical work, interns are able to collaborate directly with other administrative departments for programs and activities geared towards student success. Clinical services include phone intakes, diagnostic assessments, individual counseling sessions, crisis supports, and emergency assessments and intervention. Previous interns have assisted in a variety of projects including the Counseling Services manual revision, client outcome evaluation projects, CAS research and general evaluation of the department, and numerous campus events including Smart Start Saturday (our premiere event for new incoming freshmen each semester), First Year Experience, class visitations, independent presentations on mental illness and mental health care, Game of Life, and commencement activities. You will directly collaborate with staff in our Academic Success Center and Student Services departments including Admissions, Advising, Student Life and Student Accessibility Services. This internship experience exposes you to both sides of working on a college campus – the clinical work directly with students, and the administrative work that often happens “behind the scenes.” You will gain experience working with faculty, and get the benefit of working in a smaller campus setting.

Next year’s intern will also work directly with me to utilize a funding opportunity to support the psychological well-being of our students. This will include using the Kognito training module, additional programs, bringing in speakers, and developing new clinical and support tools for the students. Supervision is done weekly, and focuses on developing clinical and administrative skills for working in a college counseling center.

If this is an opportunity you would like to learn more about, please contact me directly at eribnik@kent.edu . Doctoral students with Ohio licensure are preferred, however all applications received will be reviewed to find the best candidate.

The application is available now at my website: http://stark.kent.edu/student/resources/counseling/

Please feel free to pass this information along to anyone who may be interested! Have a wonderful rest of the week!
