April 29th is National Fentanyl Awareness Day—a reminder of how much the landscape of substance use has changed.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is extremely potent and often mixed into other substances without a person’s knowledge, significantly increasing the risk of overdose.
In recent years, synthetic opioids like fentanyl have been involved in the majority of overdose deaths nationwide.
This is why awareness, education, and access to resources are critical.
Recognizing the signs of overdose and knowing how to respond—including the use of naloxone (Narcan)—can save lives.
If you or someone you love is struggling, help is available.
