What is the A1C test? 🤔🩸

The A1C test can be used to diagnose diabetes or help you know how your treatment plan is working. The A1C test gives you a picture of your average blood glucose (blood sugar) over the past two or three months.

When it comes to the numbers, there’s no one-size-fits-all target. A1C target levels can vary by each person’s age and other factors but, the goal for most adults with diabetes is an A1C less than 7%. The test results are reported as a percentage. The higher the percentage, the higher your blood glucose levels over the past two to three months.

Reach out to your doctor for more clarity on what your test results mean. For more general information visit https://diabetes.org/about-diabetes/a1c.

Know when to thaw those turkeys! ⏰️

🦃If you thaw your turkey in the refrigerator, expect the turkey to need 24 hours per 5 lb (2.3 kg) of meat to defrost completely.
🦃To prevent juices from getting on other food, place the turkey in a container when thawing in the fridge.

With early detection and awareness, you can take steps to prevent or delay the onset or type 2 diabetes. Knowing what increases the risk of developing diabetes can help prevent it.

Some risk factors of developing type 2 diabetes include, but aren’t limited to, overweight and obesity, smoking, and high blood pressure. Small changes to your lifestyle can help prevent or delay diabetes, even if you’ve been diagnosed with prediabetes. Your doctor will help you create a plan and set goals that work. You may also be referred to an evidence-based lifestyle change program.

For more information ask your doctor or check out local agencies that offer evidence-based lifestyle change programs.🩺🌟
