Why go to a certified nutritionist?

This is a topic that was buzzing in my head quite a bit last night. Why would you go to a nutritionist? For you to tell them your goal like lose weight or lower your cholesterol & then they'll give you some printout with an infographic about the best foods to eat for you to make this happen.

Let's be honest; in today's technological environment where information is readily at our fingertips, most of us have already Googled this information for ourselves, maybe watched some Youtube videos, or joined some forum for free to get this information.

So why go to a certified nutritionist?

A nutritionist is not just someone who tells you what to eat, how much, so on & so forth. A nutritionist is a counselor, a therapist, & a support team. Helping you assess your own goals to land on a meal plan is only 20% of the process. Over 50% of our initial training to become certified is in therapeutic techniques!

The goal of seeing a nutritionist is not to be told what to eat. It's a relationship with a nutritional counselor to create a body positive environment for the client to explore their behavioral & thinking patters. Through client-lead cognitive behavioral therapy, nutritional counselling results in lasting changes, lasting habits, & decreases incidents of disease.

That's more than anything you can find on Google or Youtube.

Why Centurion? In Ancient Rome, a leader of an army numbered in the hundreds would be called a Centurion. Maybe this imagery brings to mind something from the movie ‘300’? Now take that energy towards your health.

You’re constantly at battle with the imagery, societal expectations & advertising over your next food choices! No matter where you go there’s another sign, another commercial, another comment from someone. How’re you supposed to make informed decisions on your health? Perhaps from your family doctor.

Did you know most doctors only receive a total of four hours of education on human nutrition throughout the course of their four years of medical schooling? They receive more education from drug representatives yearly than they will on continuing nutrition education over the course of five years!

So where do you turn to learn the secret to healthful living?

A centenarian is a person who has reached the age of 100 years. In 2012, the UN estimated that there were 316,600 living centenarians worldwide. Most of these individuals are living independent lives with minimal western medical intervention; that is, with minimal medications & surgeries. These are the individuals that hold the ‘secret’ to a long healthful life.

This was achieved in 4 weeks switching from a keto diet to whole food plant based.

This change sparked my thirst for wanting to know how, why, what’s the secret? Little did I know, 6 months later I’d be getting my Nutritionist Certification & going down the rabbit hole.
