Medicare Telehealth Policy Extension!

With the approval of the federal spending bill on February 2, 2026, the Medicare telehealth policy (G2025 policy for Rural Health Clinics) has been extended through December 31, 2027.

In addition, the occasional in-person visit requirement for mental health telehealth services is also waived until January 1, 2028.

As of March 2026, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will transition the CLIA program to a fully paperless process.

Laboratories and providers who perform laboratory testing have until March 1, 2026, to switch to electronic fee coupons and electronic CLIA certificates.

Congress has ended the Government Shutdown!

The end of the government shutdown means that retroactive coverage for telehealth services is being reinstated temporarily through January 30, 2026.

Claims that were put on hold will be paid retroactively from October 1st onward. It also means that Rural Health Clinics can provide telehealth services to Medicare patients without geographic restrictions (e.g., patients can be located at home) under the G2025 methodology.
