This year my persimmon tree FINALLY decided to bear the cutest Baby Fruit. I got to sit with my persimmon tree this morning in a CRISP fall air. Fall is one of my favorite times of year and I am enjoying and savoring it this year. It never ceases to amaze me how we put things in the ground and they GROW.
My learning from my persimmon tree this morning is that all plants grown and bear fruits at different times and different seasons in life. Even the amount they can produce varies from year to year. We humans are the same. When we bear our fruit to the world, how we produce that fruit of our internal work and what it looks like- is unique to each of us and it VARIES over time. No comparisons! Do your own unique internal work and when you’re ready, it will bear fruit to the world! Happy Sunday!

So grateful I was able to spend a long weekend in New Orleans.
I flew in for ‘s class on postpartum practices in Benin. It was a very informative class and her framework of Orí, Sankofa, and Àșá as a cultural lens to view birth work was shifting for me. This trip I found myself hanging with my one of my favorite mother-daughter duos ( & Bacon), wandering through parks, reading books and taking in a lot of artwork. I enjoyed the experiential nature of .nola (highly recommend) and was brought to both tears and joy with the artwork at (another STRONG recommend). In the words of Brother Ali- “ I ain’t buying fear just because that’s all you got left.” I was reminded that to serve in birth work is to believe in hope and to know as spirits are ushered out there are always new ones being ushered in to create a new future. As those before me have done-I strive to find my pockets of joy even during dark times for, “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” -Dumbledore

We are saddened to hear news of the passing of Michel Odent, whose vision and writing reshaped the way we understand human birth.

Michel Odent reminded us that birth is not a medical procedure to be controlled, but a primal rythm to be respected. He advocated for home-like maternity units, warm water births, protecting the birthing woman's privacy and honouring her instincts, undisturbed contact between mother and newborn; he was among the first to discuss the importance of the microbiome, and question many of the practices that had (and have) become normalised in overmedicalised maternity systems globally.

Michel Odent's legacy lives on in every dimmed, quiet birthing room, and in every midwife his words and work inspired to join our profession.

Thank you, Michel, for your passion, vision and committment to women and newborns.

I was going through some papers and found this jewel!
This month marks my 16th year of serving my community through birth and womb work. I still remember how excited I was learning the history of the Grand Midwives and how in the beginning I was trying to sell people on the idea of having a doula at their birth! There was a new thing called Twitter and I was trying to figure out how to use it to let people know about natural birth and VBAC’s. 🙄 While my relationship to the space has changed and I don’t resonate with the term doula anymore. I still feel birthwork and womb work “deep down in my soul” (iykyk).

Grateful to still be called to hold space for folks while the power of their womb space is accessed. There are many sayings in my faith tradition that speak about the power of the womb and its connection to God. One saying goes-“The womb says, whoever connects to me has connected to God and whoever disconnects from me has disconnected from God.”

In the spirit of helping others to reconnect back to their womb space, I am going to offer 16% off my womb services to include Womb steaming, Red light therapy, Womb moxa, Womb reiki, Healing touch and Womb cupping. DM for an appointment. You can purchase now and use at a later date.
This special will run through April 22nd.

It has been 47 years rotating the sun. And the gift of time is something that is the most precious thing to me. Especially time with those who I love and care about. I got to spend some much needed time with one of my oldest friend’s who gifted me with some of her digital art. I am SO excited to hang this in my office. A beautiful reminder to praise God through all seasons of our lives. As I get older and approach the next season of my life, I am reminded how fleeting life is. Our children remain children for the longest-shortest time. And before we know it, we will be the ones being taken care of.
Enjoy whatever current season of life you are in. Cherish the blessings in it because it will not return again. And each season of your life gives you a chance to birth something beautiful into that space.
May we all give birth to positive change that echoes seven generations ahead and honors seven generations behind!
