Happy February, friends 🤍
We are officially into 2026, and this feels like the perfect moment to return to the roots of yoga. Over the coming weeks in class, we’ll begin exploring the 8 Limbs of Yoga—a timeless framework that guides us not just on the mat, but in how we live, relate, and move through the world.
The 8 Limbs of Yoga
Outlined in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the 8 limbs offer a holistic path toward balance, awareness, and inner freedom:
Yamas – ethical guidelines for how we relate to others
Niyamas – personal observances and self-care
Asana – physical postures
Pranayama – breath regulation
Pratyahara – turning inward
Dharana – concentration
Dhyana – meditation
Samadhi – unity or deep connection
This week, we’ll begin with the Yamas, which are often described as yoga’s ethical foundations. They invite us to cultivate awareness, compassion, and integrity in our daily lives.
The five Yamas are:
Ahimsa – non-violence, kindness toward ourselves and others
Satya – truthfulness, living and speaking with honesty
Asteya – non-stealing, honoring what is freely given
Brahmacharya – moderation, mindful use of energy
Aparigraha – non-attachment, letting go of excess and expectation
As we move and breathe together, we’ll gently weave these ideas into our practice—using the body as a gateway to deeper understanding, reflection, and connection.
I’m so grateful to share this journey with you. Whether you’re brand new to yoga or have been practicing for years, there’s always something fresh to discover when we return to the heart of the practice.
Come move with us! 🤍
With so much gratitude, Robin 🧘🧘♀️ ✨
