“Gut health” gets talked about like it’s a niche issue.

In practice, it rarely is. The microbiome is involved in hormone regulation, immune signaling, metabolism, and even neurotransmitter production. When it’s disrupted, the symptoms don’t stay neatly in the digestive system. This is why I often come back to the gut, even when someone comes in for something that doesn’t seem digestive on the surface.

Have you noticed multiple systems feeling off at the same time?

I’m really happy to welcome Sydney Davis, LAc to our Monterey clinic.

She has advanced training in orthopedic and sports medicine acupuncture and focuses on pain, injuries, and recovery that isn’t progressing the way it should.

If something in your body isn’t resolving, Sydney is an excellent person to work with.

Her books are open and I highly encourage you to schedule an appointment with her.

If you live with autoimmunity, these three tests tell you if your biology is driving inflammation or keeping it at bay.

• Microbiome mapping reveals whether your gut microbes are calming inflammation or fueling it (and expert interpretation matters here)
• Intestinal permeability testing tells us if inflammatory triggers and toxins are leaking into circulation
• Vitamin D levels show whether your immune system has the ability to self-regulate

Together, they reveal whether you’re in control of inflammation, or in danger of an autoimmune flare.

"I see women who are smart, health-literate, and persistent; yet still struggling to get answers from a system that wasn’t designed for the complexity of women’s physiology. By the time they reach my practice, they’ve often seen multiple providers, had the standard labs, and been told everything looks “fine.” Meanwhile, they feel anything but fine." Standard lab ranges are designed to catch disease, but they aren’t designed to keep you well.

And for women in perimenopause, that gap can look like energy crashes, anxiety, insomnia, abdominal weight gain, brain fog, and more.

Metabolic health affects nearly everything: energy, hormones, sleep, mood, and long-term disease risk.

Yet most women are never taught how to assess it or improve it.

This spring I’m running a small-group medical program where we’ll explore metabolic health together using physiology, lab markers, and real-time feedback from a continuous glucose monitor.

If you’re curious about how your body actually responds to food, stress, and sleep, this program may be a good fit.

Enrollment is now open. Link in bio.

If you feel like you’re “doing everything right” but your body isn’t responding, it’s worth asking a different question.

What is your metabolism actually doing?

The Metabolic Health Reset is a clinician-led group for women who want to understand insulin, blood sugar, inflammation, and stress physiology in a structured, experiential way.

Enrollment is now open. Details in my bio.

GLP-1 is having a moment.

What’s easy to forget is that this hormone has always been part of your physiology: regulating hunger, insulin signaling, and blood sugar behind the scenes.

For some women, supporting their own GLP-1 release can meaningfully change appetite patterns and metabolic stability.

When part of a metabolic health plan, CaloCurb Clinical offers a plant-based way to work with the body’s existing signaling.

Most chronic symptoms require ongoing, responsive care over time.

In the first month of offering my Monthly Care Plan, I’m already seeing the relief patients feel simply knowing they have a clinician invested in their healing.

This plan is designed for patients who want:
• Regular follow-ups
• Thoughtful lab review and interpretation
• Adjustments to treatment as symptoms evolve
• Direct clinical support between visits

To provide this level of care, I intentionally limit the number of patients I work with.
As a result, I currently have a small number of spots remaining.

Turning 60 brought clarity.

I work with patients who have done the labs, tried the diets, and seen the specialists, yet still don’t feel well. Functional medicine has taught me that healing isn’t a single intervention.

It’s an iterative process, shaped by steadiness and continuity over time.

Root cause medicine takes time.

Beginning February 2026, monthly care will be my primary way of working with functional medicine patients. This reflects what I see clinically, again and again: meaningful healing happens with continuity, adjustment, and real-time support—not isolated visits.

I’ll continue to offer acupuncture and single functional medicine visits as needed. But for most people with chronic or layered symptoms, monthly care is my recommendation.

Many people arrive at my practice after being told their labs are normal, while their bodies are telling a different story.

Functional medicine doesn’t replace conventional care. It complements it by looking more closely at patterns, interactions, and root causes that don’t always fit neatly into diagnostic categories.
