At Jaywalker, we often say, The closer you get, the better it looks.

From the outside, our program can seem intense. The structure. The accountability. The expectations. It is real work. But when men step fully into it, when they lean into the community and engage the process, something shifts.

The closer you get to the brotherhood, the more authentic it feels.
The closer you get to the work, the more growth you see.
The closer you get to the structure, the more freedom you experience.

What might look demanding from a distance becomes transformative up close.

The closer you get to Jaywalker, the better it looks.

We’re excited to congratulate Jay Propp as he steps into his new role as Director of Admissions at Jaywalker.

Jay’s journey, from client to team member to leader is remarkable. With lived experience, authenticity, and genuine compassion, he brings a unique perspective to every family and individual he connects with.

He understands just how powerful that first call can be, and there’s no one better to guide others through it with empathy, clarity, and hope.

Jay, congratulations on this well-deserved role. We’re grateful for your leadership and the impact you continue to make every day.

Moab never disappoints.

This past week, 18 clients and 5 staff headed out for our March Expedition—blue skies, 70° days, and a packed schedule of adventure.

On the surface, it looks like a getaway. But this is where the work comes to life.

No formal groups. No typical structure. Just real-world moments where guys get to practice what they’ve been learning—leaning into discomfort, building connection, handling stress, and showing up differently.

That’s where the shift happens.

Walls come down. Bonds get stronger. And long-term recovery starts to feel real.

Grateful for a week full of growth, connection, and a lot of laughs.

When a loved one enters treatment, families are often left with more questions than answers.

In this episode of Family Matters, Kevin Petersen and Jay Staples explore two powerful and complex situations: a wife struggling to find her voice and role in her husband’s treatment journey, and a family navigating the legal fallout after an intervention with their son.

They unpack what’s appropriate when it comes to communication, how families can advocate without overstepping, and what real involvement should look like during recovery.

If you’re trying to balance support, boundaries, and the need for clarity—this episode offers honest perspective and practical guidance.

Confidence in recovery is built one small win at a time.

For many men, that growth starts with something physical. Climbing a mountain. Reaching the top of a rock wall. Pushing through a hike when every part of you wants to quit. These moments matter.
Physical challenges create tangible proof that change is possible. You set a goal. You stay present. You keep going. And eventually, you reach the summit.

That process mirrors recovery.

Each small victory builds belief. Each challenge strengthens resilience. Over time, those wins stack up and reshape how a man sees himself. Not as someone defined by his past, but as someone capable, disciplined, and strong.

Confidence is not handed to you in recovery. It is earned through action. One climb, one step, one win at a time.

Sustainable recovery is not built in a moment. It is built through a process.

It requires a phased continuum of care that meets men where they are and walks them forward step by step. Early structure. Gradual responsibility. Increasing independence. Each phase builds on the one before it, creating a foundation that can actually hold.

It also requires a strong family program. When families engage, learn, and grow alongside their loved one, the system begins to change. Communication improves. Boundaries strengthen. Trust is rebuilt over time. Recovery becomes a shared commitment, not a solo effort.

And it requires a strong community. Brotherhood. Accountability. Shared experience. Men who challenge each other, support each other, and refuse to let one another drift back into isolation.

Sustainable recovery is not accidental. It is crafted and nurtured over time.

Preparing men for a life in recovery is about more than helping them get sober. It is about equipping them to live well once treatment ends.

Sobriety is the starting point. What comes next is learning how to handle stress, relationships, work, setbacks, and responsibility without returning to old patterns. Men need practical tools, emotional awareness, accountability, and a strong community around them.
Recovery does not exist in a vacuum. It exists in everyday life.

When men leave treatment prepared with structure, purpose, and real-world skills, they are not just hoping to stay sober. They are stepping into a life they are capable of leading with integrity, resilience, and connection.

That preparation is what turns short-term sobriety into long-term recovery.

Leaving Sun Valley with a full heart.

This year’s Winter Leadership Summit was a powerful reminder that when the right people come together, something special happens. What started with plenty of anxiety and anticipation turned into an unforgettable week of connection, learning, and community.

From incredible presentations and meaningful moments honoring true leaders, to packed morning AA meetings filled with honesty and vulnerability — it was a week that reminded all of us why we do this work.

Grateful for every person who showed up and helped make it so meaningful.

Already looking forward to next year in Vail!
