We are seeking an experienced Medical Billing Specialist to join our multi-provider office in Carbondale, IL. The successful candidate will be responsible for posting insurance claims, working denials/appeals, working aging on outstanding insurance claims, and coding with ICD-10 and CPT codes. Additionally, this role will include other duties such as covering reception, calling insurance to verify benefits, and collecting on past due patient accounts. This is a full-time position with competitive compensation and benefits.
Responsibilities:
Post insurance claims accurately and in a timely manner using appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes.
Work denials/appeals to ensure maximum reimbursement from insurance companies.
Work aging on outstanding insurance claims to ensure timely payment.
Verify insurance benefits and coverage by calling insurance companies and gathering necessary information.
Collect on past due patient accounts by communicating with patients and their families regarding payment options and arrangements.
Cover reception and perform other administrative duties as needed.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding and billing regulations and requirements.
Communicate effectively with providers, staff, patients, and insurance companies.
Assist with other duties as assigned by the office manager.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent; associate's preferred.
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing, coding, and insurance claims processing.
Strong knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes and medical billing and coding regulations and requirements.
Experience with posting insurance claims, working denials/appeals, and working aging on outstanding insurance claims.
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EMR computer systems used for billing and coding.
Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare practices.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
