Mission in Motion

This giving season, our teams are coming together to fight hunger in our community.

Employees at SIH St. Joseph Memorial Hospital recently donated $2,000 to the Murphysboro Food Pantry to help support local families. According to Pantry Director Megan Austin, “This generous contribution will help make holiday meals possible for people in need, and we’re so thankful to be able to provide that support to those who rely on us.”

In addition, many other departments across our healthcare system are collecting food items and donations to support our community in various ways:

SIH leaders across our facilities, along with the SIH Foundation and SIH Community Benefits, rallied together to collect food items for several local food pantries.

- SIH System Office is hosting a "Stuff the Pantry" food drive to benefit the Good Samaritan Food Pantry.
- SIH Herrin Hospital is hosting a Thanksgiving food drive to support employees in need.
- SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale is assembling Thanksgiving meal kits for local families.
- SIH Harrisburg Medical Center has started a food bank at the hospital.

Caring for our communities goes beyond the walls of our hospitals and clinics. Helping our friends and family in Southern Illinois comes from the heart.

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Join us as we honor lung cancer survivors, patients and families while raising awareness about the power of early detection.

If you’re between the ages of 55 and 77 and have a history of smoking, talk to your provider about a low-dose CT scan. Early detection means more treatment options, and it could save your life.

Investing in the future of healthcare starts with hands-on learning. This week, we partnered with SIU School of Medicine to host a hands-on Suture Workshop for 86 first and second-year medical students. With guidance from 21 SIH providers, students received one-on-one instruction and practiced best techniques for suturing.

This collaboration is an important investment in the next generation of healthcare professionals and reinforces our shared commitment to growing high-quality care here in Southern Illinois.
