We love our hometown of Carbondale, Colorado, and so it was an immense joy to host our good friend last week, and show him our incredible network and community here in the mountains.

A big thank you to and for the tour of Jaywalker Lodge, our local men’s treatment center.

Dr. Phoenix - we love you, and look forward to your next visit to Colorado! You are such a ray of sunshine for our small mountain community!

We use a phase-based support model in our services, but how exactly does that work?

Our phases reflect the intensity of care coordination, therapeutic oversight, and comprehensive assistance required to address each client’s evolving needs.

Each phase is designed to provide graduated levels of intervention aligned with current risk factors, treatment engagement, and progress toward sustainable recovery goals.

The phase assignments are determined through ongoing assessment considering multiple domains: relapse vulnerability, psychiatric stability, family system functioning, and overall safety considerations. While estimated contact hours are provided for reference, they represent only one dimension of care intensity.

Each phase encompasses the full scope of planning, crisis intervention capacity, care coordination, documentation, and collaborative consultation that our team provides to support both the client and family system.

What would be your rock bottom??

Rock bottom is often described as the lowest point, but what that looks like is different for everyone.

It’s a common belief that hitting rock bottom is a prerequisite for change. While crisis can be a powerful motivator, it’s not a requirement.

Waiting for rock bottom can actually be dangerous, as it often leads to tragic consequences.

Current research indicates that various intervention strategies can effectively increase an individual’s motivation for change, providing a path to recovery before a life-threatening crisis occurs.

While we can’t force anyone to change, we can create an environment where change is more likely to occur.

In our experience, family connection, positive peer support, healthy boundaries, and access to expert mental health and addiction services are more critical to successful outcomes than hitting a bottom.

February is Teen Dating Awareness Month.

Early relationship trauma increases addiction risk. Our early relationships shape how our nervous system learns safety, connection and regulation. When our first experiences of love involve control, fear or emotional stability, our brains often adapt through survival. Substances can become coping tools for unmanaged stress, anxiety or shame.

Remember: trauma is not always physical.

Many adults in addiction recovery trace relationship patterns back to adolescence, when attachment and self-worth were still forming.
