People think Acupuncture just has to do with nerve function or “trigger points.” Well yes- that is what it would be understood as for a person who is less educated on the topic…
However studies have shown that function can be re-established even when nerves are severed due to the connections that become recreated more through the fascia and myelin sheath.

Acupuncture works along the fascial planes and uses the body’s natural electric system to establish and maintain functionality. When we combine this with things like herbal medicine for traumatic injury, we speed up this process. This is why grade 1&2 tears in tendons and ligaments can often re-establish their integrity through Chinese medicine without surgery.

There is more to the body than what we can see under a microscope alone. It is all connected and often fills in the gaps to unexplainable phenomenons that occur from a strict biomedical perspective alone.

Yesterday I received many questions asking why I grind eggshells into powder so let me explain.

I make this as a natural supplement. It is sustainable, creates less waste and is better than what you can get over the counter.

Eggshells contain primarily calcium carbonate. Usually in supplements this is what is present (heavy metals are in fact a concern with calcium supplements keep in mind).

In addition to a great source of calcium (because it is a natural supplement encompassing all natural constituents) it adds strontium, magnesium, fluoride and selenium in trace amounts.

Studies have shown that calcium absorption from egg shells is actually up to 64% higher than calcium carbonate in its pure form thus aiding in bone health.

As an added benefit: the membrane of the eggshell that often comes along for the ride in the process-contains collagen and small amounts of chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine all potentially aiding in your joint health.

For all you athletes: you need calcium for muscle contraction and you lose is through perspiration and activity- therefore this can potentially aid athletes in avoiding muscle cramps and still aid the bone health and joint health as previously discussed.

Taking A Risk For Success...

Let's take heavy lifting as an example and measuring risk. When you are in a meet, you are voluntarily telling your body to get crushed.

Is that true? No... Because in your mind, you are planning to resist that heavy weight so it does NOT crush you.

So why is this important?

In life, we will always be measuring risk versus reward and we measure those risks through statistics, potential fears and personal abilities. The reward is measured by our ideal perceived outcome as a result of taking that risk.

Therefore, life is a game of checks and balances and quite often the biggest risk takers can be the ones who get the biggest reward.

Successful people are not successful through stupidity, they are successful because they learned how to control the fear complex in their mind, to get over their mental barriers and welcome the chance of reward.

So next time you throw yourself under a heavy weight, are you going to let it crush you? Or are you going to show the damn thing whose the boss?

Well... thats why so many athletes succeed, because they understand this...

Crabs In The Bucket...

Have you ever looked at crabs in a bucket and noticed when one starts to make it out, the others pull on it to bring it back down?

Well to be honest I used to hide my successes, my personal records and the physique I was proud of that I worked hard for because of the other "crabs" in my life...

I remember back when I was in high school and a group of my friends decided they were annoyed with me when I began sharing my excitement about getting personal records in the gym...

In particular, I was excited about how I got more pull-ups than I did the previous week and I guess after sharing the number, they were just sick of hearing it and that resulted in an "intervention" in the school library where I had to apologize for sharing my excitement and personal accomplishments with my "friends."

The reason this sticks out to me today is because there is a deeper lesson I want to share... You SHOULD share your success with those who are your true friends (and your friends should be your supporters). If you don't take the time to celebrate-who will? Im not saying go brag, but just share your excitement.

When you begin to find greater success in life, business, training, parenting whatever... people will start to become annoyed, jealous, even offended because they see you taking off...

This is where you begin to see who your true supporters are- and as a result- the type of people you want to be surrounding yourself with.

It doesn't matter what your success may be, people who have your back should be supportive and will be free of jealousy and judgement because they will be genuinely happy for you- regardless if they have a separate opinion.

Ever since that experience in high school, I began to learn the truth about friendships and support systems and that taught me- some people have no place in your life when you level up- so you either bring them with you or let them figure it out for themselves.

So when you are that one crab who begins to find their way out into the world with other crabs trying to pull you back down... let them be- and maybe one day they will find a way out of the bucket themselves.

This is one of the metaphors my Dad told me throughout my life and has been one of my biggest secrets to success.

People Don't Want To Be Healthy...

They want to be healthy by changing absolutely nothing in their life and in most cases would rather subscribe to the idea that a pill will fix it.

We know there is a time and place for a medication, a supplement, a life saving procedure and so on... I have needed some of those very same interventions myself at certain times in my life.

But this is not a health and wellness intervention, this is more of a "don't die" intervention.

So when we take ourselves out of a life and death scenario, how much prophylactic treatment are we giving ourselves?

Exercise, healthy food, mindfulness & relaxation activities, healthy relationships and so on... these are the building blocks to actual health. This is the way you prevent placing yourself in a life and death health situation.

Health is not just the absence of disease.

Health is about thriving in your life, creating longevity, fulfillment and bliss, not scraping by with the bare minimum to "not get sick."

My Doctor Doesn't See The Whole Picture...

Well, how can you expect someone a holistic view of health when they are only utilizing one type of medicine or medical specialty?

The issue here is the majority of our society subscribes to one view of health when in reality there are many avenues and areas that can be used. Insurance typically only caters to one view of medicine as well- however this is beginning to improve...

So what am I talking about? Well... I've had many conversations around this topic with clients, patients I have worked with in the past etc. The reality is... Different practitioners do different things.

Here is where we run into problems. Often there is a division between "East & West" medicine when in reality they are completely different theories. The key is being able to communicate BOTH.

Therefore if you want a true holistic lens of your health that is well educated and clinically proven, you need to find a practitioner who understands how to navigate both a microscopic and macroscopic view of your health.

Having been in the Traditional Chinese Medicine world for years I noticed there are some HUGE gaps more so in communication between medicine rather than differential treatment principles because this is not taught in school. The practitioner has to go out of their way to learn the other theories they didn't learn in school.

This is why I personally pursue research deeply in both traditional and biomedical methods to be able to mold the worlds together. The more you can bridge the gap of communication-the less confusion there is and the better care and view you can get regarding your health.

This is exactly why I created Integrative Health Coaching, to help people navigate these worlds and find ways that most align with their values.

I Get Wasted On The Weekends...

All I have to say to this is "f**k that." I'm not one to judge how you spend a good time, whatever turns you on. For me on the other hand, I've got too much to do than waste my time feeling hung over, lethargic and full of brain fog and toxic overload.

Trust me, I'm not a guy against having a good time, but I am a guy who likes to have a good time and feel good during as well as after.

Let me be clear, what works for me, may not work for you, and thats okay. I don't drink and I don't part-take in playing with mind altering substances- it just never was on my radar.

If that is what works for you, cool, do you.

When it comes to life, you need to have a balance of pleasure, work, aspirations, bliss and indifference. The trouble here is, too often I see people use substance to catapult themselves into the weekend, to rebel on their days off... or another common term "cheat days"

My question here is what is it you are trying to rebel from? If you enjoyed your life, would there still be the need to rebel? If you enjoyed your food or your lifestyle, would you need cheat days?

Balance in your everyday allows you to simply be present, and enjoy your existence. No pressure. Just Presence...

When you work with me, we combine Strength, Health, & Life coaching all in one bundle to not only find success in the weight room, but to create health and abundance in all aspects of your life. This coaching system is something I created for myself as an athlete and has brought immense success to me and now to those who I have worked with.

As a competitive athlete, educator, coach, and holistic doctor, I have found what works to not only teach you what you need to reach your highest level, I know what it takes to keep you there. I am a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine and Master of Science in Oriental Medicine with an extensive strength training, educating and coaching background. My entire life I have been involved in strength and power athletics whether it be Powerlifting, Olympic Weightlifting, Bodybuilding, Track & Field, CrossFit etc. I have been endlessly learned the ins and outs of the strength programming game since I was a young boy as I was fortunate enough to have a “Mr. New England” bodybuilder as my father who began our family legacy and was my first coaching mentor.
