The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office would like to warn citizens of a current scam involving false claims about missed jury duty, in which the scammer is posing as local law enforcement or court officials, telling victims they missed jury duty and face arrest unless they pay a fine.

**Please be advised, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office does not seek any type of payment over the telephone.**

The scammer often demands payment through untraceable methods such as gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers. They may also request personal information like your Social Security number or date of birth to steal your identity. To appear legitimate, they might provide fake badge numbers or case IDs.

If you are contacted by a caller requesting money and claiming to be law enforcement, do NOT transfer any form of payment to the caller and contact law enforcement immediately.

If you have questions about a possible warrant or about how to make a payment for the various services offered by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, please call (337) 232-9211.
