How cool is this hotel room that Ayala booked for me?? I also got bumped to first class! Living the high life... Now off to a full day of focus grouping then off to the airport at 3:30 to fly back for my surgery tomorrow! :D

Enjoying my last swim for a while... I sure love to swim but being so sick has made it virtually impossible! I'm taking the time tonight to recharge my battery before heading off to Ayala Pharmaceuticals Clinical Research Trial tomorrow in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I'll be there for only 24 hours and then back home again, but I'm looking forward to meeting all of the other Desmoid patients!

So status update, since it has been a while! My tumor came back as a type of non malignant cancer called "soft cell sarcoma: desmoid fibromatosis." Of the types of cancer you can get, it's one of the better ones because it doesn't spread throughout the body. That's why desmoids are often called "benign", but in reality they are rather insidious. They like to come back even when cut out really well: there's an up to 70% chance that my tumor will be coming back, but I am staying positive!

Positive only gets you so far, though, so I applied for this clinical trial for a new oral preventative medication. If all goes well, I will be included in phase 2b. *fingers crossed* At the very least, I will get a free trip to Minneapolis at a 4 star hotel for free, so I won't complain!!!

When I get back, I have surgery on Wednesday to finally get a port put in to make medication taking a lot easier. So far I haven't needed chemo since they think they have clear margins, but I have an MRI scheduled for next month to verify. I need the port more for IV fluids and antibiotics since I have now had 4 seperate bacterial infections!!! Who knew missing a spleen was such a big deal? Hopefully the port surgery, a 30 minute procedure, is worth it! ANYWAYS, with all the antibiotics came vomiting, and because of the vomitting I developed a hernia last week.

I go in to Lubbock on Friday for a consult with Dr. Bayouth, the surgeon I originally spoke to for my initial surgery that had a waitlist. I like him and I trust him, I just didn't want to have to wait back then. A hernia isn't TOO serious unless there's an entrapment, so I can wait a bit for him. All in all I'm honestly frustrated. I knew that the road ahead would be challenging, but I am honestly over all of this. 😑

So for now, I self care. I'll spend another 30 minutes in this whirlpool bath at the Holiday Inn Express in Roswell, then head upstairs and take a bubble bath to ease my aching muscles. I got a lot of productive things done around the house this weekend, so I feel super efficient and mentally prepared for my upcoming incapacitation. I'm going to miss my fellow Board Members for tomorrow evening's meeting, but it's for the best! I know they have my back while I'm gone.

We are hitting the road back home today! A very special thank you from the bottom of my heart to Kristi Foxx and Brad Rhodes Fox and Piggy for letting us stay with them this month...

Leaving today is bittersweet because leaving them is like leaving family. I see Kristi as a sibling I got to pick, the type I love unconditionally, the sibling I am constantly rooting for. We don't often get to pick our family, but since I am a grown adult and can do what I want, I pick Kristi. How often do you meet someone on FACEBOOK in a GAMING GROUP and end up best friends close to a decade later? Rarely. I love Kristi more than words will ever be able to convey...

I'm equally happy to have finally got to spend some extended time with her husband, Brad, who is an utter flipping delight. Anytime I wanted to go on a walk, he was there smiling, offering to go too. If I had a weird craving, he would go with the flow, and we would have weird food. He even helped us save a hummingbird that we found on a walking trail! I'm so happy that Brad and Kristi finally found one another like Dale and me. Their relationship is almost exactly like ours, so I think that's why we vibe so well. I can't wait to be a part of their official post covid wedding ceremony; there isn't a wedding I am more excited about!

All this to say, my heart is breaking having to leave. I won't miss Los Angeles; in fact, I miss Carlsbad like nobodies business surprisingly. Lol 😄 I just wish that LA and Carlsbad were a little bit closer so I could see my bestie whenever I want. Oh well, someday we will have our nerd compound in the middle of nowhere with a full Roman bath house and gaming hall! 😉

Kristi, thank you for being the "lifelong" best friend I never thought I would have. I love you.

Pic of our hummingbird friend, Opal, for attention.

Welp... I'm back in the hospital again. Haven't been able to keep anything down and the pain has been getting worse. Spent most of today in the ER but finally am in a room. I'm at 8 West at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in room 8341!

I just realized that I haven't posted in a while and everyone is probably getting worried. I got discharged on Saturday and have spent between then and now either sleeping, eating, vomiting, or sleeping. I haven't been able to hold much of anything down until today. I kept down a half of an Ensure and 2 saltine crackers. I'm sitting on an hour and a half now. Hopefully, it goes well. Thank you all who have touched bases because you were worried. Sorry to scare you, I've been a mess. 😅

Day 7: 1 week out. I had some setbacks today. They thought I might have cdiff, so I have been NPO and am STARVING. I just got a CT of my abdomen done to make sure that there is no bleeding happening. So I decided if I can't eat, I'm going to be a sunflower!!! ^,^

What a gorgeous view. I'm just sitting here thinking of how grateful I am for my care team at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Kristine, Han, Stephanie, Jessica, Jennifer, Susan. Britney, and the others I may have forgotten due to time and memory capacity issues... thank you from the bottom of my heart.

The difference 10 hours can make: I finally got my NG tube out about 3 hours ago and man is it a night and day difference. Obviously I'm hurting pretty badly, but I can finally breath and I'm not nauseated anymore!!! I also got my foly out, so I feel like I can take on the world. A bit at a time, but it's doable now. Tomorrow I get to try clear liquids for the first time in tiny portions since my stomach essentially got stapled. I got a free weight loss surgery. XD

Thank you to everyone for your kind words of support and compassion. I couldn't have gotten this far without all of you.
