2025 Reflection 🐎🎨
One of our recent highlights this year was a horse therapy day where kids painted horses, fed them, and experienced the calm that comes from connecting with animals. These moments go beyond fun — they help build confidence, reduce stress, and create space for healing in ways that feel natural and joyful.

Reflections on 2025 ✨.

ConnectMed supports the travel of medical students attending PRS PRIME at UCSD (). This educational and mentorship program helps reduce barriers for students from underrepresented backgrounds in medicine entering the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery.

We’ve helped students travel from programs both near — like UC Riverside and California Northstate University — and far — like Ponce Health Sciences University in Puerto Rico.

By supporting travel and access, we’re helping ensure these future physicians can participate in critical opportunities for mentorship, education, and representation.

Building equity in medicine means showing up — and making sure others can too.

This weekend was one to remember 💙

We were honored to welcome over 450 attendees and 99 families, celebrating 12 countries and cultural traditions together in one incredible community.

A huge thank you to our special guests XO Ranch, and Santa for helping make the day so memorable for the families we serve.

Events like this remind us why we do what we do — bringing people together through connection, care, and joy.

🌟 Thank you to everyone joining us at Holidays with Camp Cosmos at the Toby Wells YMCA! Santa’s here, and we’re celebrating “It’s a Small World: Holiday Traditions Around the World” with lots of fun activities, inclusive games, and holiday cheer for everyone. 🎄✨

This Thanksgiving, we were grateful to launch our Global Experiential Training Program — featuring UC San Diego plastic surgery resident Dr. Jason Llaneras as our very first Trainee.

Jason spent three incredible days in Chiapas, Mexico, learning and collaborating with a surgical team led by Drs. Juan Cuellar Sr. & Jr. and Dr. Maria Luisa Lopez at the Pediatric Hospital. Alongside three medical students and two residents from Mexico City and Guadalajara, the team provided surgical care for 11 patients from low-income and remote communities— a busy, meaningful, and unforgettable experience.

Programs like this are so valuable for American trainees: they get to learn hands-on surgical techniques “in the field,” gain exposure to different types of cases, settings and resources, and deepen their understanding of global collaboration in healthcare. We also hope these experiences spark a lifelong commitment to humanitarian work.

A huge thank-you to the Cuellars and the entire team for welcoming Jason and making this milestone moment possible! 🙏💙

Holidays with Camp Cosmos 2025 will take place at the Toby Wells YMCA (San Diego) this Sunday! (Our online program will be held on Saturday, December 13.)

We are currently at capacity, but families may join our waitlist to reserve a spot. Simply register through the link in our bio, and you will automatically be placed on the waitlist.

This year’s theme is “It’s a Small World: Holiday Traditions Around the Globe.”

This program is free for youth with physical differences and disabilities, and their families. It will include holiday activities and food tastings from different countries and cultures, a visit with mini horses from XO Ranch, support groups, special guests like Playworks and Pizzabilities, and photos with Santa.

ConnectMed was proud to be part of Qualcomm’s Employee Giving Fair AND a recipient of a Qualcomm Foundation Grant this year!

We were able to share how our year- round psychosocial and community-building programs for youth with developmental disabilities and their families make impact on their quality of life.

Qualcomm’s grant will help us continue our programming in 2026, and especially focus on planned initiatives to engage program participants who are teenagers and young adults and mentorship and leadership opportunities.
