April is Head & Neck Cancer Awareness Month. Head and neck cancers account for nearly 4% of all cancers in the United States, according to the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The NCI estimates that about 72,680 cancers of the oral cavity, pharynx, and larynx were diagnosed in the United States, and 16,680 people died from these diseases in 2025.

Treatment is available in Carlsbad!
CMC's Radiation Oncology Center offers treatment of head and neck cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and skin cancer, as well as lymphomas and brain and bone tumors.

Our board-certified radiation oncologist Ronda Fleck, M.D., has more than 30 years of experience treating cancer, and our radiation therapists and nursing staff provide compassionate, skilled care, right here in Carlsbad.

Occupational Therapy is a science-driven, evidence-based profession that enables people of all ages to participate in daily living or live better with injury, illness, or disability. This is accomplished through designing strategies for everyday living and customizing environments to develop and maximize potential. By taking the full picture into account—a person's psychological, physical, emotional, and social make-up —occupational therapy assists people in:

--Functioning at the highest possible level
--Concentrating on what matters most to them
--Maintaining or rebuilding their independence
--Participating in the everyday activities that they need to do or that simply make life worth living

Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants are experts in helping people perform the occupations they need and want to do every day.
