Happy 130th Birthday, Chiropractic!
On September 18, 1895, Dr. D.D. Palmer delivered the first chiropractic adjustment to Harvey Lillard, the janitor in his building. Seventeen years earlier, Harvey had stooped over, felt a crick in his back, and soon after lost his hearing. D.D. reasoned that a misplaced vertebra could be the cause. He adjusted Harvey’s spine, and remarkably, Harvey’s hearing was immediately restored.
From that moment, D.D. Palmer believed he had discovered the “cure” for deafness. While not every case of hearing loss was restored, countless others reported profound benefits—from improved heart function to better overall health. What began as one adjustment grew into a profession devoted to removing subluxations, restoring proper nerve function, and allowing the body to express its full potential.
For 130 years, chiropractic has continued to improve lives, one spine at a time. D.D.’s legacy endures in every chiropractor dedicated to helping people achieve health and vitality through the power of the adjustment.
Here’s to 130 years of chiropractic—and to many more ahead!
