Toddlers and screens might seem harmless, but new research from Cincinnati Children's Hospital shows it can have serious effects on brain development. The study found that toddlers who spend more than one hour a day on screens have underdeveloped white matter in the brain. Researchers used MRI scans to compare toddlers with high screen time to those with minimal screen exposure. The results revealed noticeable differences in brain structure and function. This study supports guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics. They recommend avoiding screens entirely for children under 18 months and limiting screen exposure to one hour per day for toddlers older than that.
