As Black History Month comes to an end, let’s take time to acknowledge how Black history is deeply woven into the foundation of American healthcare, public health, and community service.
Black physicians, nurses, midwives, researchers, advocates, faith leaders, and community organizers have built systems of care, expanded access where none existed, and strengthened communities through leadership, resilience, and service. Their contributions have shaped the health landscape of this country in lasting and measurable ways.
Black History Month is an opportunity to recognize that legacy — and to acknowledge the continued impact of Black professionals and community leaders improving health and supporting families across our nation today.
At ASPIN, we focus on strengthening the health workforce and supporting individuals and communities facing barriers to care — including communities where access has historically and systemically been limited. Our commitment to strengthening community-based care across Indiana is rooted in the understanding that lasting health outcomes are built through trust, representation, and local leadership. We honor that legacy and we remain committed to advancing it.
