Groundhog Day asks the same question every year: will Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow and predict six more weeks of winter, or signal an early spring? ❄️🌷

For many people, that waiting is more than a seasonal tradition. It reflects what Seasonal Affective Disorder can feel like. Days start to blur together. Sunlight feels limited. Energy is low. Emotional heaviness can settle in and be hard to shake. 🌥️

Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, is a form of depression connected to changes in daylight and daily routine. Shorter days can affect sleep, energy levels and mood, making even small tasks feel more difficult during the winter months.

This is the Groundhog Day paradox. That feeling of being stuck between “almost there” and “not yet,” waiting for light, warmth and momentum to return. Whether winter lasts six more weeks or not, what you’re feeling right now is valid. 💙

Support can help. Light exposure, movement, connection and mental health care all play an important role in managing SAD. And if winter feels especially heavy, reaching out to a healthcare or mental health professional can help you find strategies that work for you.

Spring will come. Until then, you are not weak for feeling this way, and you do not have to navigate it alone.

💬 Does a Pap smear hurt?
🩸 What if I’m on my period?

When most of us think about cancer care, we picture the moments that happen face to face. But some of the most important work happens behind the scenes.

This month, we’re recognizing the Oncology Pharmacists at Putnam Hospital!

They double-check. Then check again. They problem-solve in real time. They make sure every dose is right, every detail matters and every patient is treated with the care they deserve — even on the longest, coldest days of the year.

Their impact is felt in every treatment, every plan, every step forward. And that’s exactly what makes them unsung heroes. 💙❄️

The first FDA-approved oral GLP-1 pill has officially hit the U.S. market, and there are no needles involved. ❌

Whether you prefer a daily pill or a weekly shot, GLP-1 therapy can support weight loss goals. It really comes down to what fits your lifestyle best.

The pill 💊
✨ No needles. No equipment. Just a daily routine
⏰ Must be taken on an empty stomach with a 30-minute wait before eating or drinking
🎯 Works best if you have a consistent morning routine

The shot 💉
🗓️ Once a week. Set it and forget it
⚡ Often associated with stronger results due to higher dosing
🧊 Requires refrigeration and some planning if you travel

Both options contain the same active ingredient. The biggest difference is how you take it and how well it fits into your day-to-day life.

If you’re exploring GLP-1s, a conversation with your doctor can help you decide what’s right for you, whether that’s medication, bariatric care or another weight management option. Taking control of your health is a brave first step. 💙

A big congratulations to Kim Tsys on receiving a DAISY Award! 🌼💛

This recognition is especially meaningful because it comes straight from patients and families who wanted to say thank you for the care Kim provided when it mattered most.

Kim, a registered nurse on 3 North at Putnam Hospital, was nominated for the comfort, compassion and kindness she brings to every patient and family she serves. Moments like these are a reminder that nursing is about so much more than medicine. It’s about being present, listening and caring for our community like family.

Kim was surprised with her DAISY Award certificate, pin and Healer’s Touch sculpture alongside her team, plus the traditional cinnamon rolls and a DAISY banner that will remain on the unit for the quarter!

We are so proud to have nurses like her caring for our neighbors every day. Thank you, Kim, for being such a powerful example of what community-centered care looks like. 💙

🚨 Flu cases are surging, and Influenza A (H3N2) is hitting harder this season. Symptoms can come on fast and feel more intense, but early care can make a difference.

If flu symptoms begin, reaching out to your primary care provider early is key. Antiviral medications may be recommended and are most effective when started within the first 48 hours. Your provider can help guide next steps and monitor symptoms based on your health history.

If symptoms worsen or you’re unable to reach your primary care provider, visiting urgent care can help ensure timely evaluation and treatment.

The ER should be used for severe symptoms such as a fever of 103°F or higher that doesn’t respond to medication, trouble breathing, chest pain, confusion or signs of dehydration.

Knowing when and where to seek care matters. Staying informed helps protect your family and your community this flu season. Scroll to learn what to more of watch for and when to seek care. 💙
