In 2026, are standard lipid panels really enough to assess someone’s risk of a cardiovascular event? 🤔🫀

This American Heart Month, Nuvance Health interventional cardiologist Dr. Sunny Intwala sat down with the hosts of The Dusty Muffins to break down what heart risk assessment looks like today and why growing awareness around Lp(a) is changing the conversation.

From menopause and cardiovascular risk to what should actually happen after an initial assessment, this conversation goes beyond the basics.

For the full episode, mark your calendars for the release on official Heart Day (Valentine’s Day, of course). ❤️

This month, we Wear Red to stand with women everywhere. ❤️

Heart disease is the number one and often silent killer of women, responsible for 1 in 3 deaths each year. These are not just statistics. They represent our mothers, sisters, friends, coworkers, neighbors and ourselves.

Cathy Lewis, RN, Administrative House Manager at Putnam Hospital, shares her why:

“I wear red because I am the Administrative House Manager at Putnam Hospital and have held a valid CPR certification since high school. I wear red because my mother had cardiac surgery five years ago, my grandmother Harriet had a pacemaker and I live with atrial tachycardia. I also serve as an EMT with the Lake Carmel Fire Department. Most importantly, I wear red because I care deeply about my family, friends and community.”

What if the next breakthrough in healthcare started right here at home? 💙

Across Nuvance Health hospitals, now part of Northwell Health, doctors and research teams are advancing clinical trials for conditions they care for every day, including heart disease, stroke, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and genetic conditions.

These studies give participants the opportunity to access emerging treatments while helping shape the future of care for their communities and beyond.

By participating in clinical research, today’s questions can become tomorrow’s answers. 🔎

Public speaking anxiety affects about 40% of people, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. 🎤❌

A racing heart, shaky hands or a tight chest are all driven by adrenaline. During American Heart Month, it is important to understand how heart health and everyday stress connect.

Beta blockers are medications traditionally used to treat heart conditions. In some cases, they are prescribed off label to help manage the physical symptoms of performance anxiety by limiting adrenaline’s effects on the body. They are not anti-anxiety medications and are not right for everyone, which is why medical guidance matters.

Swipe through to learn how beta blockers work, when they may be considered and what to know before talking with a healthcare provider. 🫀

What is your p**p trying to tell you? 💩👀

Believe it or not, your bathroom habits can reveal a *lot* about your digestive health. From hydration and fiber intake to how your gut is functioning overall, your stool is sending signals every day.

In this video, Dr. Brian Monahan breaks down the Bristol Stool Chart — a simple, clinical tool doctors use to help understand what’s normal, what’s not and when it might be time to check in with your doctor.

Because sometimes the healthiest conversations start with the things we don’t usually talk about.

Cancer is never just a medical moment. 🎗️

It shows up in patients facing a diagnosis, survivors learning to live beyond it, families and friends carrying worry and steady support and care teams who bring skill and presence into rooms where it matters most.

This World Cancer Day, we pledge to continue:

💙 Listening before treating
💙 Collaborating across specialties
💙 Standing beside patients and families through uncertainty, milestones, setbacks and hope

Every person in this collage represents a different perspective, story and strength. Together, they reflect a community committed to care that sees the whole person, honors every journey and moves forward together.

Groundhog Day asks the same question every year: will Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow and predict six more weeks of winter, or signal an early spring? ❄️🌷

For many people, that waiting is more than a seasonal tradition. It reflects what Seasonal Affective Disorder can feel like. Days start to blur together. Sunlight feels limited. Energy is low. Emotional heaviness can settle in and be hard to shake. 🌥️

Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, is a form of depression connected to changes in daylight and daily routine. Shorter days can affect sleep, energy levels and mood, making even small tasks feel more difficult during the winter months.

This is the Groundhog Day paradox. That feeling of being stuck between “almost there” and “not yet,” waiting for light, warmth and momentum to return. Whether winter lasts six more weeks or not, what you’re feeling right now is valid. 💙

Support can help. Light exposure, movement, connection and mental health care all play an important role in managing SAD. And if winter feels especially heavy, reaching out to a healthcare or mental health professional can help you find strategies that work for you.

Spring will come. Until then, you are not weak for feeling this way, and you do not have to navigate it alone.
