Upper Blepharoplasty (Upper Eyelid Surgery)

One of the most rewarding procedures that our surgeons perform is an upper blepharoplasty. This procedure is designed to remove excess skin and, when appropriate, small amounts of fat from the upper eyelids to restore a more refreshed, open appearance while preserving a natural look.

♦️Fun fact: Many patients don’t realize that an upper bleph is not just cosmetic. Excess upper eyelid skin can become heavy enough to interfere with peripheral vision. For some patients, this procedure can actually improve visual field obstruction in addition to enhancing appearance.

How the procedure is performed:
🔹Done comfortably in the office
🔹Local anesthesia is used
🔹A precise incision is placed within the natural eyelid crease, making the scar very well hidden once healed
🔹Skin (and fat if needed) is conservatively removed to avoid an overdone look

Recovery:
🔸Most patients experience mild swelling and bruising for 7–10 days
🔸Sutures are typically removed around one week
🔸Many patients feel comfortable returning to daily activities within a few days
🔸Results continue to refine over several weeks

🔹Less heaviness in the eyelids

Why is ultrasound evaluation important for silicone gel breast implants?

Silicone gel implants can develop what is known as a “silent rupture,” meaning there may be no visible change in shape, size, or feel of the breast. Because symptoms are often absent, imaging is the most reliable way to evaluate implant integrity. Ultrasound is a safe, noninvasive method used to detect small or early ruptures before they become a larger issue.

The FDA recommends routine imaging for patients with silicone gel breast implants:
First ultrasound (or MRI) 5–6 years after implantation
Follow-up imaging every 2–3 years thereafter, even if you are not experiencing symptoms

Routine surveillance allows for early detection and informed decision-making regarding implant management.

Dr. John Aker and Dr. Di Beckman both offer complimentary ultrasound screenings to evaluate silicone gel implant integrity as part of our commitment to patient safety and long-term outcomes.

A $75 deposit is required to schedule a consultation. This deposit is fully credited toward surgery or aesthetic services, or refunded if no further treatment is recommended or needed.
